Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Run Man! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vadim Volkov! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksandr Martynov and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Volkov misses with a right hand and Man counters with a slapping leg kick. Man slips under a jab. Volkov throws a leg kick but Man checks it. A telegraphed right hand from Volkov misses the target. Man has managed to clinch.
Man manages to break the clinch.
Man will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Volkov tries to land a leg kick but Man saw it coming and moves away.
Man thumps Volkov with a low kick. A left lands for Man. Volkov misses with a looping left. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nice uppercut lands for Volkov. That snapped Man's head back.
Volkov misses with a hook. Man ducked under it nicely. Volkov takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Man shoots in and drives through. Volkov sprawls well. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Man lands a head kick!
It looks like Vadim Volkov has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Volkov misses with a wild body shot. Volkov feints and as Man raises his hands in defense, Volkov changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Volkov trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Man manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Volkov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Man is one step ahead there. Man engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Volkov throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Man wants to control from the top but Volkov keeps moving. Volkov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Man. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Man preventing the sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Volkov can do anything to dispel that myth. Man sitting in guard here, content to control. Man working some strikes from top position. Volkov tries to land a sweep but no joy. Volkov wants to hit a switch here but Man passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Volkov there! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Man looking to control but Volkov is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Volkov is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Man controlling the position easily from mount. Man is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Volkov is forced to tap! Great finish!
