Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ernie Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitor Hernandes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hernandes has chosen IRA - Ikar as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ernie Mason! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Vitor Hernandes! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mason tries to clinch up. Mason shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hernandes as he jumps to the side. Nice sprawl there from Mason as Hernandes shoots in. Hernandes has closed the distance and engaged Mason in a clinch.
Mason is looking to break free of the clinch but Hernandes has double underhooks. Mason pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Mason tries to clinch but fails miserably and Hernandes counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends Mason down! Hernandes is looking to finish but Mason is intelligently defending himself.
Mason is rocked! Hernandes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Oh Mason is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Mason keeping moving, preventing Hernandes from controlling successfully. Hernandes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Mason seems to have got his legs back now. Hernandes trying to control but Mason is working from the bottom. Hernandes won't allow Mason to sweep him here. Mason looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Hernandes trying to control but Mason is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mason looking to control.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Mason closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hernandes to the mat! Hernandes manages to get full guard. Mason is breathing heavily. Hernandes keeping moving, preventing Mason from controlling successfully. Hernandes pulls Mason in close to prevent any damage. Mason trying to control the position from guard on top but Hernandes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hernandes looking for a sweep. Not yet Hernandes, not yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mason trying to control but Hernandes is working from the bottom. Hernandes looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Hernandes is looking for a triangle but Mason pushes his legs off easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mason controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Mason seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hernandes for as long as he can get away with. Hernandes not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hernandes keeping moving, preventing Mason from controlling successfully. Hernandes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mason gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Mason sitting in guard here, content to control. Hernandes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mason is one step ahead there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mason wants to control from the top but Hernandes keeps moving. Hernandes lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Mason! Hernandes trying to control but Mason is having none of it. Mason wants to hold on but Hernandes pushes him away. Hernandes wants to control the pace but Mason is squirming around nicely. Mason holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Hernandes tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Hernandes working for a guillotine from mount but Mason is in no mood to give up. Mason wants to hold on but Hernandes pushes him away. Mason doing his best to control the position. Can he escape?
The referee stands the fighters back up. Ernie Mason just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Hernandes chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Hernandes shoots in and bounces Mason off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Mason is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vitor Hernandes dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Hernandes with a body punch. A glancing blow. Hernandes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Hernandes lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Hernandes tries to clinch there but Mason circles away.
A nice inside leg kick there by Hernandes. That's going to slow Mason down. Hernandes pushes Mason away with a front kick. Hernandes feints and then cracks Mason's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Mason down. Hernandes has Mason up against the cage in a clinch.
Hernandes breaks from the clinch.
Mason gets the takedown into side control. Hernandes is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hernandes is trying to escape the position but Mason is controlling the position. Hernandes wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Hernandes is trying to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hernandes wants to get back to his feet. Mason controlling from side mount. Mason wants to control but Hernandes is keeping him busy. Hernandes is looking to regain half guard here but Mason keeps moving and retains side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. A nice inside leg kick there by Hernandes. That's going to slow Mason down. Hernandes lands a head kick. Mason smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Nice takedown defense from Mason. No joy for Hernandes on that attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Mason throws a nice head kick!
The fight stays on the outside here - Mason looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hernandes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mason tries to avoid it but Hernandes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mason to the ground. Mason escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Ernie Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vitor Hernandes. Hernandes scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Excellent takedown into side control there by Mason. Mason is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Hernandes can't do much from the bottom here. Hernandes might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mason kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Hernandes sneaks back into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hernandes tries to get to full guard but Mason has control of the leg. Mason takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Mason wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hernandes keeps working. Mason is really struggling to control Hernandes but he's trying to hold on to the position. Mason seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Ernie Mason just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Hernandes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mason's waist but Mason gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hernandes off to one side.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Mason throws a lazy body kick and Hernandes counters with a good, hard body kick but Mason shrugs it off. Mason throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Hernandes counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hernandes. Hernandes pulls guard. Mason postures up.
Hernandes wants to stand and escape but Mason is having none of it. Hernandes has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Mason has passed into side control.
Mason decides to stand up, so the ref orders Hernandes to his feet. Mason is looking to land body kicks. Hernandes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. The fight stays on the outside here - Hernandes looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hernandes cracks the inside of Mason's front leg. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Ernie Mason will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Hernandes takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Hernandes has a takedown stuffed. Hernandes stuffs the takedown. Nice takedown defense from Mason. No joy for Hernandes on that attempt. Mason looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Mason tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Mason pivots, looking for a leg kick but Hernandes is out of range and Mason settles back down. A nice inside leg kick there by Hernandes. That's going to slow Mason down. Hernandes tries to clinch up but Mason circles away and keeps his distance. Mason shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Mason controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Ernie Mason overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Hernandes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mason doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mason manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Mason has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Hernandes keeping moving, preventing Mason from controlling successfully. Hernandes wants to get back to his feet but Mason is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Hernandes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mason doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mason manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Mason throws a sloppy head kick and Hernandes counters with a solid body kick. Hernandes misses with a few strikes there.
Hernandes fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Ernie Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vitor Hernandes. A jab lands there for Hernandes. Hernandes shoots and misses and Mason counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hernandes's guard now. Mason might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Mason wants to control from the top but Hernandes keeps moving. Mason controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Mason trying to control but Hernandes is working from the bottom. Mason is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Hernandes will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hernandes is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Mason controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Hernandes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Mason controls from within his opponent's guard. Hernandes working a defensive guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Mason tries to hold on but Hernandes postures up. Mason is squirming around, avoiding Hernandes's attempts to control the action. Hernandes wants to take his opponent's back but Mason doesn't allow it. Mason is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Hernandes controlling the pace for now. Mason tries to hold on but Hernandes pushes him away.
And that's the end of the fight! Ernie Mason showed his dominance in that final round. I think Mason has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
