Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sam Bennett (ranked 3475 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zachary Scedary (ranked 7517 p4p, 0 weight class). Zachary Scedary will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sam Bennett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zachary Scedary!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Dmitry Maklakov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scedary misses with a kick to the body
and Bennett counters with a right hand to the body.
Scedary darts in trying to clinch
enabling Bennett to counter with a crisp jab.


It looks like Zachary Scedary has been cut.
A looping hook to the body misses from Bennett. Scedary does a little dance to reset his feet.
Scedary shoots in for a takedown but Bennett shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Scedary tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bennett paws at him with a jab and circles away.

A counter left hand to the body from Bennett misses its target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bennett throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Sam Bennett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zachary Scedary.

Scedary takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Bennett blocks a low kick nicely.
Bennett is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Bennett looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Scedary enables Bennett to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Scedary manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Bennett is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Bennett's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Bennett seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Scedary for as long as he can get away with.

Bennett tries to free his leg and advance position but Scedary is retaining full guard.
Bennett is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Scedary fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bennett swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Zachary Scedary seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scedary feints and then cracks Bennett's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Bennett down.

and Bennett cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Bennett counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

The fighters circle momentarily. Bennett darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Bennett closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bennett lands in his opponent's guard.

Scedary is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bennett is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bennett has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Scedary fails in his attempt to clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bennett closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bennett is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Scedary is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Scedary goes for a double leg but Bennett avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bennett continues to drive forward.
Bennett is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Scedary wants to clinch
and Bennett counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Bennett throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Scedary was covering up waiting for the punch and Bennett finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Bennett is stalling in the full guard.
Scedary is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bennett wants to pass the guard but Scedary is keeping the position.
Scedary really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bennett. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Scedary escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bennett gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bennett passes Scedary's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Bennett takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Bennett is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bennett is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bennett working over Scedary with some ground and pound. Scedary looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Bennett keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Bennett continues to stall.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Bennett.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Bennett is stinking the place up with his stalling.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Bennett is taking a breather. Scedary says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Bennett shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Bennett was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Bennett remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Bennett is trying to get an arm triangle but Scedary is defending well.

Bennett lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Scedary down.

Sam Bennett is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Bennett content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
