Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Barry Butcher! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Phil Ure! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ure misses with a takedown attempt enabling Butcher to counter with a crisp jab. Ure tries to sprawl but Butcher drives through with a takedown into half guard. Butcher wants to free his trapped foot but Ure is holding on for dear life with his legs. Butcher has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Butcher is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ure defends it well. Butcher is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Butcher is looking to take a break and control but Ure is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Butcher is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ure sees it coming and defends easily. Butcher scoring with strikes to the body and head. Butcher tries to stand but can't do so whilst Ure controls his leg. Ure is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Butcher scores with a couple of nice shots. Butcher stalling. Butcher trying to control from Ure's half guard. Ure has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Butcher showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ure keeping moving, preventing Butcher from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Butcher slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Butcher tries for a kimura but Ure is defending well. Butcher working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Butcher goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Ure rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Butcher's guard! Nice work there by Ure! Ure drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Ure seems to have locked his on tight now - Butcher screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Ure, as he picks up the win!
