Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Cathaway (ranked 2370 p4p, 301 weight class) and David McDonald (ranked 4358 p4p, 481 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Cathaway! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David McDonald! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cathaway moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Cathaway checks a leg kick. Cathaway misses the jab. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Cathaway.
We've been informed that McDonald has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. McDonald clinches with his opponent.
McDonald pulls Cathaway into guard.
Cathaway is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Cathaway preventing the sweep. McDonald working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Cathaway has passed into half guard!
Cathaway missing with the ground and pound from half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cathaway wants to pass the guard but McDonald is defending well. Cathaway content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. McDonald won't allow Cathaway to pass to mount. Cathaway thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed McDonald's head. Cathaway is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Cathaway wants to control but McDonald is keeping him busy. Cathaway is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McDonald defends it well. McDonald moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cathaway trying to control but McDonald is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Cathaway is really struggling to control McDonald but he's trying to hold on to the position. McDonald keeping full guard, as Cathaway tries to pass. McDonald is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. McDonald looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Jimmy Cathaway is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Both fighters circling a little - Cathaway finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cathaway lands a big head kick that sends McDonald tumbling to the mat! Cathaway takes a step backwards and waves McDonald back to his feet - he wants the finish!
It looks like David McDonald has been cut. and Cathaway counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts McDonald! He's just covering up as Cathaway starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimmy Cathaway! Jimmy Cathaway retains his middleweight title!
