PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Fraser (ranked 23098 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Owens (ranked 4941 p4p, 504 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Fraser!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kevin Owens!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Owens.
Fraser shoots in but Owens avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Fraser shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Owens as he jumps to the side.

Owens takes the fight into the clinch.
Fraser is trying to pull guard but Owens has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Fraser. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The referee calls for Owens to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Owens breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fraser misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Owens tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Fraser manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Fraser tries to counter with a takedown but Owens is quick to defend against it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Fraser is trying to pull guard but Owens has him pressed against the cage.
Fraser stalling in the clinch.
Fraser has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Owens after a bit of a struggle.
Owens blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Owens breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Fraser counters by clinching up.

Owens has picked Fraser up - he's going for a ride! Owens dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Fraser manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Fraser lands a jab-cross combination.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Owens dives in and scores a takedown into Fraser's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Fraser manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Fraser is trying to break the clinch but Owens has him pressed against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Owens breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A punch combination from Fraser misses.
Fraser throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Owens doesn't manage to clinch there - Fraser circles away.
Owens throws a left and a right that both miss
and Fraser counters with a nice body shot.

Owens closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Fraser drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Fraser is trying to force a seperation but Owens has the dominant position.
Owens manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Owens looks to throw an elbow but misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fraser tries to pull guard but Owens forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Owens - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Owens is looking for a takedown.

Owens breaks the clinch.

Fraser has Owens up against the cage in a clinch.

Owens escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Owens tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Owens looks winded!
Owens doesn't manage to clinch there - Fraser circles away.
Owens looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Fraser shoots for a takedown but Owens saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Owens throws a body shot but no joy.
As Owens looks to move away, Fraser throws a big counter combo but Owens just gets out of the way.
Fraser moves out of range of the strikes.
Fraser throwing a counter right hand but Owens manages to avoid it.
Owens takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Owens swings for the body but Fraser moves out of range.
It looked like Fraser was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Fraser changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Owens looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Fraser sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Owens is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Fraser postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Owens felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Owens can do anything to dispel that myth.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Owens is trying to control Fraser's posture but Fraser avoids it.
Fraser prevents Owens from escaping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Fraser will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Fraser has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Owens is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Fraser fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Owens avoids it really well and circles away.
Owens throws a sloppy head kick and Fraser moves out of range easily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fraser enables Owens to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fraser manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Fraser has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Owens has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fraser jumps guard and drags Owens to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Fraser escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Owens gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Fraser manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Owens leaves Fraser with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Owens looks to land a combination but Fraser avoids it well.

Fraser moves into range and clinches up with Owens.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Kevin Owens will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Fraser's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Owens shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fraser pinned against the cage. Fraser gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Fraser manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Fraser is trying to control the position but Owens postures up.

Fraser wants to sweep but no luck.
Owens looking to sit in guard and control but Fraser gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Owens working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Fraser has passed into half guard!
Fraser stops Owens from getting back to his feet.

Owens wants to get back to full guard.
Owens avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Fraser.

Fraser seems to be looking for submissions.
Owens is in trouble now - Fraser has advanced to mount!
Chris Fraser overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Owens is squirming around, avoiding Fraser's attempts to control the action.
Fraser tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chris Fraser showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Fraser has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
