0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karl Berret! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Laks looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Laks dives in for a single leg takedown but Berret sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Berret looking to score a takedown here. Laks is defending well but Berret drives through and ends up in Laks's guard. Laks is looking for a triangle here but Berret uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Berret controlling from side mount. Laks is working to avoid the ground and pound but Berret connects with a decent elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A lull in the action here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Laks wants to control but Berret postures up. Berret is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Laks's shoulder. That is not cool. Laks trying to control but Berret flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back! Berret is landing with strikes from the back. Berret lands punches and elbows. Berret really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Laks.

Berret has the hooks in. Laks is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Laks is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Berret.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Berret is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Berret shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Laks manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Laks is trying to keep Berret in close.
Laks has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Berret has passed into side control.
Berret passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Laks! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Berret controlling from the full mount. Berret lands a nice shot to the head. Oh Laks is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Berret has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Laks tries to hold on but Berret postures up. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Berret sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Laks is wriggling around trying to escape.
Berret is landing with some decent strikes but Laks is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
