PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Enda OSullivan (ranked 23525 p4p, 365 weight class) and Mako Takaziko (ranked 23531 p4p, 353 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Enda OSullivan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mako Takaziko!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Takaziko clinches with his opponent.
Takaziko tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and OSullivan avoids it.
Takaziko is trying to break the clinch but OSullivan has him pressed against the cage.

Takaziko successfully pulls guard.
OSullivan prevents Takaziko from getting back to his feet.

Takaziko looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Takaziko is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

OSullivan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Takaziko, up you get!
OSullivan shoots in for a double leg but Takaziko sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
We've been hearing reports that OSullivan has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Takaziko looks for a takedown but OSullivan sprawls well.
OSullivan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from OSullivan is defended easily by Takaziko.
No luck for Takaziko with that takedown attempt.
Takaziko ducks under a wild hook from OSullivan.
A countering left hand to the body from Takaziko misses.
Takaziko fakes the leg kick and cracks OSullivan in the body.

Takaziko moves into the clinch.
A head punch on the inside from OSullivan fails to land.
OSullivan lands a hook to the side of the head.

OSullivan breaks the clinch.
Takaziko shoots in but OSullivan avoids the takedown attempt easily.
OSullivan attempts a counter takedown but Takaziko avoids it well and moves away.
Enda OSullivan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mako Takaziko.

Takaziko has managed to clinch.

OSullivan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
OSullivan swats away the attempt to clinch by Takaziko.
Takaziko shoots in but OSullivan avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Takaziko darts in and clinches OSullivan up against the cage.

Takaziko's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
OSullivan shoots in looking for a takedown. Takaziko tries to sprawl out of it but OSullivan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Takaziko manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Takaziko appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

OSullivan shoots in and bounces Takaziko off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Takaziko has his foot on OSullivan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. OSullivan works his way back into a safe position though.

Takaziko has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. OSullivan is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Takaziko.

OSullivan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no OSullivan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Takaziko is looking to regain half guard here but OSullivan keeps moving and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Takaziko's face as OSullivan controls the position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
OSullivan cracks Takaziko with a big right hand but Takaziko just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

OSullivan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Enda OSullivan will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Takaziko moves into the clinch.
OSullivan drops down looking for an ankle pick but Takaziko pulls his leg out and moves away.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
OSullivan drives through with a takedown into Takaziko's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
OSullivan wants to pass the guard but Takaziko is keeping the position.

OSullivan stands up from guard. Let's bang!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Takaziko tries to clinch up.
OSullivan throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Takaziko throws a body shot but no joy.

Takaziko is looking to clinch.

Takaziko dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

OSullivan scores with a takedown into Takaziko's guard.

OSullivan avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Takaziko is breathing heavily.
OSullivan looking to sit in guard and control but Takaziko gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OSullivan wants to sweep but no luck.
Takaziko trying to control but OSullivan is working from the bottom.
OSullivan seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Takaziko would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
OSullivan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
OSullivan has Takaziko pulled in close to control his posture.

OSullivan controls Takaziko momentarily but Takaziko frees himself.
OSullivan working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Takaziko.
Takaziko wants to stand but OSullivan has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Takaziko keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Takaziko wants to clinch up but OSullivan keeps it at a distance.
Takaziko looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? OSullivan is fending him off so far but Takaziko persists. Nope, OSullivan circles away and we're back to standing.
Enda OSullivan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mako Takaziko.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Good work by OSullivan as he checks the leg kick.
Enda OSullivan is winning the standup battle so far.
Takaziko doesn't succeed with the takedown

and OSullivan counters with a single leg into guard. Takaziko didn't expect that.

Takaziko manages to escape and get back to his feet.

OSullivan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - OSullivan lands in his opponent's guard.

OSullivan stands up from Takaziko's guard - OSullivan perhaps looking for a knockout.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Enda OSullivan will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Takaziko comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Enda OSullivan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
OSullivan shoots in looking for a takedown. Takaziko tries to sprawl out of it but OSullivan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Takaziko manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

OSullivan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Despite the aggression on Takaziko's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
OSullivan takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
OSullivan is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Takaziko.
OSullivan darts in looking for a takedown but Takaziko gets double underhooks and turns OSullivan into the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
OSullivan moves out of range of the body kick from Takaziko.
Takaziko scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Takaziko misses with a head kick.
It looked like OSullivan was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
OSullivan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Takaziko swivels and escapes.
A countering left hand to the body from Takaziko misses.
OSullivan tries to close the distance and clinch but Takaziko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Takaziko doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
OSullivan shoots in looking for a takedown but Takaziko manages to keep the fight standing, pushing OSullivan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Horrible takedown attempt by OSullivan or perhaps it was just good defense by Takaziko, which made it look bad.

OSullivan takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Takaziko throws a combination. OSullivan tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Enda OSullivan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Takaziko avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Takaziko is looking for the big counter here.
OSullivan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Takaziko sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten OSullivan somewhat.
Takaziko looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
OSullivan shoots in but no luck this time.

Takaziko throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
As Takaziko backs away, OSullivan returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
OSullivan darts in looking for a takedown but Takaziko gets double underhooks and turns OSullivan into the cage.
And Takaziko responds with a good body kick, but OSullivan manages to step out the way in time.

OSullivan closes the distance and clinches.
OSullivan changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Takaziko fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Takaziko lands a nice hook to OSullivan's body. OSullivan takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Mako Takaziko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
OSullivan takes one on the button.
Takaziko is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down OSullivan rather than just go for the knockout.
Takaziko lands a jab to OSullivan's midsection.
Takaziko lands with a slapping head kick.
Takaziko stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Takaziko wants it to stay on the feet.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Takaziko.
OSullivan fails with the takedown
and Takaziko counters with a two punch combo.
Enda OSullivan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Takaziko is looking to work his way out of this bad position but OSullivan is controlling him well.
Takaziko tries to bench press OSullivan off him but OSullivan keeps the position.
Takaziko wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Mako Takaziko comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think OSullivan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
