Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Alves slips a straight right by Flavio.
Flavio fails with a takedown attempt.
Flavio looks for a takedown but Alves sprawls well.
Alves gets a takedown into half guard.
Alves moves nicely into side control.
Flavio tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alves wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Alves tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alves has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Alves trying to control the position but Flavio is working away.

Alves is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Flavio managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Alves.
Alves is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Flavio knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Flavio prevents Alves from moving into mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Flavio fails with the takedown
and Alves counters with a nice kick to the body.

Alves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Flavio keeps working.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Flavio is looking to regain half guard here but Alves keeps moving and retains side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Flavio swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Flavio lands with a hook. Alves tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Flavio gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Alves counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Flavio is looking for a triangle here but Alves uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Alves trying to control the action but Flavio is working from the bottom.
Alves takes a little break here. Flavio wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joao Alves dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Alves closes the distance and clinches.
Flavio tries to pull guard but Alves won't allow it.
Alves ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Alves no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flavio looking to sit in guard and control but Alves gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Flavio isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Alves stacks Flavio on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Alves!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Alves works to advance to full mount. Flavio defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Flavio tries to hold on but Alves pushes him away.

Alves is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Flavio is surviving well by controlling Alves's body position as best he can.
Alves with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Alves has hold of Flavio's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Flavio manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Alves controlling the pace for now.
Flavio is wriggling around trying to escape.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Alves looking for a guillotine from mount but Flavio is having none of it.
Alves working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Flavio looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Alves! Submission of the night perhaps?
