PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between AC Slater (ranked 82 p4p, 12 weight class) and Benjamin BK (ranked 135 p4p, 22 weight class). Slater's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Stop What Ya Doin. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, AC Slater!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 14 - 1, fighting out of New York, Benjamin BK!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slater looks to land a combination but BK avoids it well.
Slater uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from BK.
Slater seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
BK uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Slater has time to react.
A jab from Slater finds it's way through BK's defenses.

Slater closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
BK trying to control here.
Slater misses with a head shot. BK uses the momentum to regain guard.
Slater throws a strike but BK rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

BK prevents Slater from getting back to his feet.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw BK working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
BK stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Slater swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as BK accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Slater looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
BK is looking to work some ground and pound but Slater has wrist control.
BK in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Slater controls BK momentarily but BK frees himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
BK scoring with punches to the head and body.
BK working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

BK is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
BK pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Slater is keeping the position for now.

BK postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
BK throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Slater works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
BK throws a strike but Slater rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Slater won't allow BK to sweep him here.
BK is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Slater with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
BK preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Slater wants to control from the top but BK keeps moving.
Slater controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

BK manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Slater manages to get himself to full guard.

Slater is looking to stand up but BK isn't so interested in that idea.

BK stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Slater swivels though and keeps the full guard.

BK distracts Slater with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
BK wants to pass the guard but Slater is keeping the position.
Slater is looking to stand up but BK isn't so interested in that idea.

BK in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
BK has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
BK stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Slater swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
BK throws a strike but Slater rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Slater wants to pass the guard but BK is keeping the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now BK is on top in guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as BK accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Benjamin BK dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


BK misses with a looping left.
BK looks to score with a jab to the body but Slater is just out of range.
BK misses with a body shot.
BK throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Slater ducks under a wild hook from BK.

BK lands with a nice body punch.
BK swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Slater drops down looking for a counter takedown but BK sprawls and moves away.
BK cracks Slater with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
AC Slater is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Slater misses with a jab, cross combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
BK shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Slater as he avoids it easily.
Slater cracks BK with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Slater throws a nice looking combination but BK bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
BK feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Slaters jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

BK pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Slater takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
We've been told by Slater's head coaches at Fight Factory that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Slater steps to the side to avoid the strikes from BK.

BK scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

BK has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
BK misses with a left hand
and Slater counters with a straight right hand.
Slater takes a head kick and keeps coming.
BK might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Slater takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
BK changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

BK stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and BK wants it to stay on the feet.
BK thumps Slater with a low kick.
BK misses with a lunging right hand
and Slater cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
BK digs a good body shot into Slater's ribs.
Slater steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from BK. That one must have hurt.
Benjamin BK seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and BK takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
BK throws a leg kick but Slater sees it coming and checks it nicely.

BK feints a jab promting Slater to slip. BK then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Slater slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Slater bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
BK swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Slater keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

BK wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
BK connects with a leg kick. Slater looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Slater darts in looking for a takedown but BK gets double underhooks and turns Slater into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for AC Slater. That's going to take a lot out of him.
BK misses with a hook
and Slater counters with a right hand to the body.

BK throws a jab but it's blocked by Slater.

BK feints and then cracks Slater's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Slater down.

Slater moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

BK throws out a loose jab but Slater uses good head movement to avoid it.
Slater throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
BK throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Slater misses the shot to the body.
BK connects with a body shot.
BK digs a good hook to Slater's body.
Slater on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Slater avoids the body shot from BK.
Slater appears to be looking for a big counter.
Slater has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from BK.
Slater waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract BK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Benjamin BK showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


BK throws a leg kick which misses Slater's front leg but catches the back leg as Slater tries to avoid it.

Slater fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but BK avoids it really well and circles away.

BK ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Slater moves away.

Slater got a little sloppy there for a moment and BK has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Slater has managed to get both his arms back between BK's legs - danger averted.
Slater postures up in BK's guard and throws a big left but BK blocks it.
Slater cracks BK with a solid left hand.

BK tries to land a sweep but no joy.

BK working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Slater doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but BK is tightening it up a little... Slater has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Slater reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Slater taps out! Nice BJJ there by BK!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Benjamin BK!
