Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Richter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Max Kenney!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richter fails with a takedown attempt.

Kenney looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Richter trying to control but Kenney postures up.
Kenney tries to pass to full mount but Richter defends it.
Kenney missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kenney with the ground and pound but Richter uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Richter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kenney can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Richter looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kenney is in close to Richter's body, working some short punches and elbows.


It looks like John Richter has been cut.

Richter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Richter trying to keep a closed guard but Kenney is proving a slippery customer.

Richter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kenney slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Kenney is looking to take a break and control but Richter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kenney is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Richter doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kenney.
Kenney slips a nice elbow through Richter's hands, connecting with Richter's forehead.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kenney working over Richter with some ground and pound. Richter looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Kenney winds up and cracks Richter with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Richter is trying to stand back up but Kenney is controlling him
Richter is breathing heavily.
Kenney blocks the strikes from Richter.

Kenney wants to work for an arm triangle but Richter is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kenney looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Richter with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kenney wants to pass the guard but Richter is defending well.
Richter is not content to let Kenney control the position.

Richter trying to hold on to Kenney's head to control him but Kenney postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kenney scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Kenney goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Richter rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kenney's guard! Nice work there by Richter!
Richter wants to pass the guard but Kenney is keeping the position.
Richter trying to control but Kenney is working from the bottom.
Kenney manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Richter manages to get himself to full guard.
Kenney content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Richter is trying to control the position but Kenney postures up.

Richter looking for a guillotine here but Kenney defends easily.
Richter seems keen to control Kenney's posture.
Kenney is looking to advance position but Richter has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Richter is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kenney is surviving well by controlling Richter's body position as best he can.
Kenney is looking to get to half guard.

Richter stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Richter darts in and clinches Kenney up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Kenney dominated that round.
The cut man is working on John Richter's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kenney throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Max Kenney is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Richter tries to clinch up.
Max Kenney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown by Richter or perhaps it was just good defense by Kenney which made him look bad.

Richter takes the fight into the clinch.
Kenney drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kenney is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Richter gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Kenney is trying to break free.
Richter gets underhooks to prevent Kenney's takedown attempt.
John Richter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Kenney.

Richter gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Richter drops an elbow to the side of Kenney's head.

Richter stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Kenney to get to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Richter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Kenney fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Richter sprawls well initially but Kenney persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kenney is stalling here. Richter is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kenney seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Richter has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Kenney sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Kenney is trying to get back to full guard.
Kenney is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Kenney wants to sweep but Richter has passed to side control!

Kenney is looking to reverse the position.
Kenney takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Richter stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Kenney swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kenney throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Richter.
Kenney lands a with a good body shot.
Kenney shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Richter holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Kenney is trying to break free.
Kenney has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Richter avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Kenney wants to break the clinch but can't.

Richter has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kenney regains guard immediately.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Richter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kenney swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Richter passes into half guard.

Richter is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Kenney is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
