PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gary The Reaper (ranked 733 p4p, 105 weight class) and Jake The Dog (ranked 1533 p4p, 198 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying The Dog's choice of entrance music: Meditation Time. Gary The Reaper has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gary The Reaper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake The Dog!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as The Reaper checks a leg kick.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that The Dog has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
The Dog fakes high and swings low for a body shot but The Reaper manages to avoid it.
A looping hook to the body misses from The Dog. The Reaper does a little dance to reset his feet.
The Reaper half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
The Dog cracks The Reaper with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
The Reaper with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling The Dog to score with a decent uppercut.

The Reaper scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
I wouldn't like to be where The Dog is right now.
The Reaper wants to lay and pray for a moment but The Dog keeps working.
The Dog tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Dog takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

The Dog is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The Reaper postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The Dog has momentary wrist control but The Reaper slips an elbow through the middle.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. The Reaper lands a nice short elbow.

The Dog has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. The Reaper is working away from the top position though.

The Dog wants to sweep but no luck.

The Dog is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The Dog utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The Reaper throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as The Dog works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've been hearing that The Reaper has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as The Dog holds on and takes a little breather.
The Dog not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The Dog throws an off balance right hand

and The Reaper counters with a takedown into side control.
The Reaper lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear The Dog down.
The Reaper cracks The Dog with an elbow. That is naaassty.
The Dog tries to bench press The Reaper off him but The Reaper keeps the position.
The Reaper advances to full mount.
The Reaper lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The Dog sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The Reaper lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
The Dog regains full guard. Nicely done.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The Reaper trying to control but The Dog is working from the bottom.
The Dog is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The Dog has his foot on The Reaper's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. The Reaper works his way back into a safe position though.

The Dog escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. The Reaper gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The Reaper tries to free his leg and advance position but The Dog is retaining full guard.
The Dog manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. The Reaper manages to get himself to full guard.

The Dog lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The Dog distracts The Reaper with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The Reaper is looking for a triangle but The Dog pushes his legs off easily.
The Dog won't allow The Reaper to sweep him here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gary The Reaper dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


The Dog lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
The Reaper doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
The Dog throws a looping overhand right but The Reaper ducks down to avoid it.
The Dog dips to his left and cracks The Reaper with an uppercut!
The Dog lands a really nice looking cross but The Reaper seems unphased.
The Reaper is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The Dog moves away from the strike by The Reaper.
The Reaper lands a nice shot to the body.
The Reaper misses with a hook.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The Dog throws a hook but The Reaper blocks it.

The Reaper shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than The Reaper was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The Dog tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but The Reaper wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The Reaper winds up and cracks The Dog with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The Reaper not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The Reaper takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The Reaper lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The Dog keeping hold of The Reaper's head, controlling as best he can.

Will he stop it?? One more big shot from The Reaper and the ref steps in to end the fight! The Reaper can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

After winning the bout, Gary The Reaper thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
