PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Sixpack (ranked 7903 p4p, 639 weight class) and Roman Reigns (ranked 4736 p4p, 460 weight class). The key to victory for Joe Sixpack has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Sixpack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roman Reigns!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jonathan Paton and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reigns throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sixpack was covering up waiting for the punch and Reigns finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Sixpack preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Reigns postures up in Sixpack's guard and throws a big left but Sixpack blocks it.
Reigns slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Sixpack tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sixpack could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sixpack looking for a guillotine here but Reigns defends easily.
Sixpack looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Reigns puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Reigns is trying to control. Sixpack wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Reigns performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Reigns throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sixpack tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Reigns manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Sixpack closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Reigns is trying to control Sixpack's posture but Sixpack avoids it.
Reigns is pushing Sixpack's head away, looking to escape. Sixpack manages to hold on to the position though.
Sixpack has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Sixpack trying to control but Reigns is having none of it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sixpack prevents Reigns from getting the reversal.
Sixpack postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Reigns looks a forlorn figure.

Reigns is looking to improve his position but Sixpack isn't that keen on the idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Sixpack will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Reigns tries to break the clinch but Sixpack is controlling the position.
Sixpack goes for a takedown attempt but Reigns pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Sixpack is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Reigns is defending well for now.

Reigns is pressed up against the cage. Sixpack has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Reigns down to the mat. Reigns avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Sixpack. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Reigns drives through with a takedown into Sixpack's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Sixpack is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Reigns dives into side control.

Reigns thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Reigns tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Sixpack tries to bench press Reigns off him but Reigns keeps the position.
Reigns sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sixpack is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Reigns takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Sixpack to pass into mount.
Reigns working the ground and pound effectively.

Sixpack tries to lock up and control but Reigns gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Sixpack is trying desperately to improve position.

Sixpack manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Sixpack wants to control but Reigns is keeping busy.

Let's hope that Reigns has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Roman Reigns showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Reigns throws a wild body kick that Sixpack sees coming a mile off.
Nice jab there from Reigns.

Reigns shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Reigns showed some decent athleticism there.
Sixpack on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sixpack tries to get out of the position.
Reigns controlling the action here.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Reigns.

Reigns takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Reigns tries to bum rush Sixpack with a series of wild strikes but Sixpack uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Reigns counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Reigns throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sixpack works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sixpack has a closed guard, preventing Reigns from standing up.
Reigns stopping the sweep attempt from Sixpack.

Sixpack isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Reigns stacks Sixpack on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Reigns!

Reigns swings around for an armbar but Sixpack sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Reigns's guard.

Reigns is trying to stand.
Reigns has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Reigns is trying is best to control the position here.
Reigns works his way to full guard. Good work.

Reigns slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Roman Reigns comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Reigns has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
