PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Misha Collins (ranked 440 p4p, 52 weight class) and Khal Stark (ranked 864 p4p, 88 weight class). Stark has chosen The River Dragon by Nevermore as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Misha Collins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
20 - 14 - 2, fighting out of New York, Khal Stark!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut lands for Stark. That snapped Collins's head back.
Stark throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Collins stuns Stark with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Stark misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Stark pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Stark tries to bum rush Collins with a series of wild strikes but Collins uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sloppy strikes from Stark. Those never looked like landing.
Collins appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Collins throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Stark misses with a hook
and Collins counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stark keeping moving, preventing Collins from controlling successfully.
Collins is really struggling to control Stark but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Collins lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Collins trying to control but Stark is working from the bottom.
Collins loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Stark has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Collins can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Stark thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Collins is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Stark is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Collins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stark swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Collins keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Stark's head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Stark striking off his back but it's not causing Collins any problems.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Collins throws a big right hand that misses.
Collins postures up and lands a big shot to Stark's brow.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Collins scoring with some ground and pound.
Collins trying to control the position from guard on top but Stark is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Collins wants to pass the guard but Stark is keeping the position.
Stark looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Collins postures up in Stark's guard and throws a big left but Stark blocks it.
Collins passes Stark's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Collins looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Collins wants to pass the guard but Stark is defending well.
Stark makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stark.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Collins keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Stark's head.
Collins postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Collins tries to free his leg and advance position but Stark is retaining full guard.

Collins lands a couple of digs.
Collins passes Stark's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Collins blocks the strikes from Stark.
Stark is refusing to be controlled, as Collins sits in half guard.
Collins is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Stark is just riding it out for now. Collins eventually gives up the hold.
Stark is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Collins jumps into side control!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stark takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Check out the look on Collins's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stark with a jab.
Stark throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Collins throwing a counter right hand but Stark manages to avoid it.
Collins works the jab nicely.
Stark tries a head kick but it misses.
Collins drops down looking for a counter takedown but Stark sprawls and moves away.
Stark throws a right hand that Collins ducks under and follows up with a left that Collins also avoids with ease.
Stark scores with a jab. Collins acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Collins works the jab nicely.
Stark fails to land with a series of punches.
Stark lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Collins scores with the left hand. Stark knows he should have avoided that one.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Stark connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Stark shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Collins moves out of range as Stark strikes.
Collins shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Stark napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Stark takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Collins scores with punches from side control.
Stark is not content to let Collins control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Stark is trying to control Collins's posture but Collins avoids it.
Collins lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Stark down.
Collins creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Stark struggling a bit here.
Stark tries to buck Collins off but Collins is having none of it.
Stark is not content to let Collins control the position.
Collins landing strikes.
Collins is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Stark is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Collins lands some shots froms side control.
Collins tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Collins has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
We've been hearing that Collins has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Collins trying to control the position but Stark is working away.
Stark is trying to work for a sweep but Collins has mounted him!
Stark takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Collins working the ground and pound effectively.
Stark sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Stark is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Collins's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Collins's back!
Stark is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Collins has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Stark has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Collins taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Stark doesn't care though - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Khal Stark!
A pretty intense looking Khal Stark took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
