0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mashu Khan! The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Banks wants to clinch. Khan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Banks to the mat! Banks manages to get full guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Banks is on top in guard.
Khan has momentary wrist control but Banks slips an elbow through the middle. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Banks with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Banks is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Banks drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Khan dives on top into guard. Banks has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Khan is fighting to break Banks's control of his arms but Banks is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Khan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Banks could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Khan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Banks is trying hard to land a takedown here. Khan sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Banks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Banks lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Khan feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Banks's calf. A momentary lapse in concentration from Khan enables Banks to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Khan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Banks working some strikes from top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
