Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rigoberto Vargas (ranked 8717 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rickson Correira (ranked 5834 p4p, 0 weight class). Rigoberto Vargas is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rigoberto Vargas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rickson Correira! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Emerson Jorge and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vargas shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Correira sprawls well. Correira wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Vargas gets slowly back to his feet. Correira closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Correira throwing shots but Vargas is blocking nicely. Vargas is trying to stand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vargas is controlling Correira's position as best he can from this difficult position. Correira perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Correira thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Correira sitting and controlling from the half guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Correira tries to stand and escape but Vargas actually recovers to full guard. Correira trying to control but Vargas is working from the bottom. Correira controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Correira tries to free his leg and advance position but Vargas is retaining full guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Correira moves into the clinch. Vargas lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. A frustrated look appears on Correira's face as he tries to break the clinch. Vargas keeps control of Correira as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Correira is trying to break the clinch but Vargas has him pressed against the cage. Vargas blocks a body shot from Correira. The referee calls for Vargas to work.
Vargas's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Correira wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Vargas has him pressed against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Correira turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Vargas regains half guard, as Correira was trying to land strikes. Correira trying to control the pace. Correira is looking to take a break and control but Vargas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Correira wants to stand up but Vargas is controlling the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vargas is trying to maintain the position but Correira is very close to passing his half guard. Correira wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Vargas uses the opportunity to regain full guard. Vargas wants to control the position but Correira says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Vargas holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Correira performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Vargas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Correira passes to full mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rickson Correira dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Correira defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Vargas. Correira throws a head kick but Vargas moves out of range.
Vargas went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Correira throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Vargas tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Correira is in Vargas's guard. Correira wants to control from the top but Vargas keeps moving. Correira has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Correira tries to free his leg and advance position but Vargas is retaining full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Correira slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Vargas defending against the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Correira tries to move to mount but Vargas blocks the move with his legs. Vargas tries to escape but Correira is in control. Correira wants to stand but Vargas has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard. Correira trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Correira tries to stand but Vargas is controlling from the bottom. Correira trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Vargas keeping moving, preventing Correira from controlling successfully. Vargas is looking for a triangle but Correira pushes his legs off easily.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Correira misses with a wild body shot. Correira feints and as Vargas raises his hands in defense, Correira changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Vargas will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Correira trying to control but Vargas is working from the bottom. Vargas is pulling down on Correira's head to control his posture.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Correira wanted to stand there but Vargas had control of the position. Correira being controlled here momentarily. Correira stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vargas swivels though and keeps the full guard. Vargas keeping moving, preventing Correira from controlling successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Correira sitting in guard here, content to control.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Correira is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Vargas. Correira throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Correira rushes Vargas and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Correira has clasped his hands together around Vargas's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Correira tries to advance to mount but can't. Correira tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rickson Correira showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!
Vargas gets caught napping as Correira dives in and scores a takedown. Vargas manages to retain guard. Vargas wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Vargas wants to sweep but no luck. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Correira wants to control from the top but Vargas keeps moving. Correira postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Correira advances to half guard. Correira is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Both fighters are breathing heavily. Correira trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vargas is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Correira thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Vargas in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Correira wants to take Vargas's back but he can't do it this time. Correira controlling from the full mount. Correira tries to control but Vargas wriggling away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Correira looking to land elbow strikes but Vargas uses the position to regain half guard. Correira thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vargas's head. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Correira is trying to control. Vargas wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Rigoberto Vargas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Rickson Correira is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Correira is taking a breather. Vargas says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that's the end of the fight! Rickson Correira comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Correira has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
