16 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, L Manning Hines! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick by Ho Joy misses and Ho Joy takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Hines slips under a jab. Ho Joy scores with a decent looking hook. Ho Joy misses with a straight right. Ho Joy scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Hines uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ho Joy. Hines uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ho Joy. Jab by Ho Joy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ho Joy pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Hines back to the cage. Ho Joy follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Do Ho Joy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hines lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ho Joy lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

That's one minute gone in the round. Ho Joy misses with a wild body shot. Ho Joy tries to clinch and Hines counters with a stiff right hand. Ho Joy slips a jab from Hines. Hines looks to land a combination but Ho Joy avoids it well. Ho Joy throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hines. Hines shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ho Joy but Ho Joy pushes him off and we're back to square one. Ho Joy connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Ho Joy is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hines. Ho Joy throws a head kick but Hines moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ho Joy swings widly with a right hand
and Hines counters with a nice uppercut. Ho Joy dodges the punch combination from Hines.

Hines takes a swing at Ho Joy's ribcage but misses. Ho Joy is looking to counter punch. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ho Joy throws a quick inside leg kick. Hines blocks a leg kick. Hines needs to keep his hands up - Ho Joy had a free shot at his head there. Ho Joy closes the distance looking to clinch and Hines cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hines scores with a decent looking hook. Ho Joy throws a hook to the side of Hines's head but Hines sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Hines misses with a straight right. Hines slips under a jab from Ho Joy. Hines needs to keep his hands up - Ho Joy had a free shot at his head there. Ho Joy throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Hines's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Ho Joy dives in looking to finish as Hines flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Ho Joy's strikes! Ho Joy is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Hines's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Hines was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Do Ho Joy!
