PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Howard Beale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Ledfoot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beale comes into the arena with Mad As Hell blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Howard Beale!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Ledfoot!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from Beale misses.
Beale fails to land the takedown.
Beale tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ledfoot swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Beale tries to clinch up.
Beale shoots in for a takedown but Ledfoot shows good takedown defense.

Beale has Ledfoot up against the cage in a clinch.
Beale digs a right hand into Ledfoot's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Ledfoot's gas tank.
Beale misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ledfoot.
Ledfoot has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Beale avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Beale prevents the takedown attempt.
Beale lands a right hand.
Ledfoot is trying to break the clinch but Beale has him pressed against the cage.

Beale manages to break the clinch.
Beale tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ledfoot swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ledfoot looks for a takedown but Beale sprawls well.
Howard Beale has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Ledfoot.

Ledfoot avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ledfoot is looking to land body kicks.
Beale looks to land a right hand but Ledfoot moved out of range.

and Ledfoot counters with a single leg into guard. Beale didn't expect that.
Beale seems keen to control Ledfoot's posture.
Beale is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ledfoot trying to hold on to Beale's head to control him but Beale postures up.
Ledfoot might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Beale kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Ledfoot is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Beale pulls his head out easily.

Beale blocks the strikes from Ledfoot.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ledfoot is looking to improve his position.
Ledfoot trying to control from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Beale throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ledfoot doesn't manage to clinch there - Beale circles away.
Beale misses with a double jab.

and Beale counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

and Beale cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Ledfoot looks gassed!

Beale drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ledfoot is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Beale knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ledfoot on the ground.

Beale stands up.
Beale doesn't manage to clinch there - Ledfoot circles away.

Beale works over Ledfoot's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Joe Ledfoot has been cut.
Howard Beale seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Beale looks to clinch

and Ledfoot counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Beale makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Beale.
Beale is pulling down on Ledfoot's head. It's preventing any offense from Ledfoot, at least for the moment.
Ledfoot trying to control but Beale is working from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ledfoot slips under a jab from Beale.
Beale rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ledfoot moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Ledfoot dodges the punch combination from Beale.

Beale feints and as Ledfoot raises his hands in defense, Beale changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ledfoot looking for a sweep. Not yet Ledfoot, not yet.

Ledfoot working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Beale has passed into half guard!

Ledfoot is trying to control but can't.
Beale is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Beale is trying to work for a kimura but Ledfoot is defending well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Beale is looking to stall here but Ledfoot recovers full guard.
Beale has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Beale stands up from Ledfoot's guard - Beale perhaps looking for a knockout.
Ledfoot throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Beale's waist but Beale gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ledfoot off to one side.
Howard Beale is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ledfoot changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Beale tries to avoid it but Ledfoot manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Beale to the ground. Beale escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ledfoot trying to control but Beale postures up.
Howard Beale overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Beale wants to get back to his feet.

Ledfoot looking for submissions off his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Beale counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Howard Beale has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Ledfoot.
Beale is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Beale seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ledfoot for as long as he can get away with.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Beale stays in close to Ledfoot's body and controls the position.

Ledfoot is looking for a triangle here but Beale uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Beale has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Beale tries to clinch but Ledfoot is having none of it.
Ledfoot keeps the fight on the outside.
Ledfoot looks to land a left hand but Beale moved out of range nicely.

Beale tries to hold on but Ledfoot pushes him away.
Beale is squirming around, avoiding Ledfoot's attempts to control the action.

Beale is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Ledfoot prevents Beale from getting the reversal.
Ledfoot wants to take his opponent's back but Beale doesn't allow it.
Beale bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Ledfoot bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Beale's guard.
Beale looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Ledfoot is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Beale is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Beale has escaped and now he's on top!

Joe Ledfoot has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Ledfoot looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Beale wants to control from the top but Ledfoot keeps moving.

Ledfoot working for a triangle but Beale defends it easily.

Ledfoot has his foot on Beale's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Beale works his way back into a safe position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Howard Beale.
Well Beale has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
