PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dewayne Sykes (ranked 24819 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Eriksen (ranked 5811 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dewayne Sykes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kurt Eriksen!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Sykes or perhaps it was just good defense by Eriksen, which made it look bad.

Eriksen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sykes napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Sykes is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Sykes can't do much from the bottom here.
Eriksen scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sykes to see if he's OK.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Eriksen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Sykes sneaks out the side door and pushes Eriksen away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

It looks like Dewayne Sykes has been cut.

Eriksen has managed to clinch.

Sykes decides to pull guard.

Eriksen decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Sykes throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Eriksen.

Eriksen closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sykes quickly recovers to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sykes enables Eriksen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sykes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Sykes is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Eriksen presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Eriksen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sykes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sykes jumps guard but Eriksen stands there with Sykes around his waist. Sykes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Sykes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Eriksen walks away with a smile on his face. Sykes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Sykes is trying to pull guard but Eriksen turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Sykes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Sykes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Eriksen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Kurt Eriksen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Eriksen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sykes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

I would just about give that final round to Kurt Eriksen.
Well Eriksen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
