PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Franjo Tudman (ranked 6559 p4p, 544 weight class) and Conour McNugget (ranked 6098 p4p, 525 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Conour McNugget was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Franjo Tudman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Conour McNugget!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tudman dives in and grabs McNugget's left leg, looking for a takedown. McNugget pushes down on Tudman's head and hops out.

McNugget moves into range and clinches up with Tudman.
McNugget will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Tudman up against the cage.
Tudman tries to pull guard but McNugget won't allow it.
McNugget lands an uppercut.
McNugget is pressed up against the cage. Tudman has hold of a leg and is looking to drag McNugget down to the mat. McNugget avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Franjo Tudman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McNugget clinches with his opponent.
Tudman tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McNugget smiles and moves away.
McNugget throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tudman tries for a takedown but McNugget sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

McNugget lands a lovely overhand right.
Tudman walks into a jab.
Tudman misses with a takedown attempt - McNugget sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Tudman dives in and grabs McNugget's left leg, looking for a takedown. McNugget pushes down on Tudman's head and hops out.
McNugget lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Donk. McNugget catches Tudman right on the button with a cross.
McNugget has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Tudman is landing a low percentage of strikes.

McNugget instigates a clinch.
Tudman jumps guard but McNugget stands there with Tudman around his waist. Tudman gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
McNugget lands a left hand that snaps the head of Tudman backwards.
A quick uppercut on the inside from McNugget.
Tudman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Tudman is looking for a takedown up against the cage. McNugget gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tudman tries to pull guard but McNugget holds him up against the cage and eventually Tudman drops back down to his feet.

McNugget's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McNugget lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

McNugget clinches up with Tudman and pushes him back against the cage.

McNugget buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

McNugget scores with a hook to the body. Tudman takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Tudman.
McNugget shapes to counter with a head kick.

Tudman pulls guard effortlessly.
McNugget tries to free his leg and advance position but Tudman is retaining full guard.

Tudman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McNugget is aware though and is defending well.
Tudman is trying to control the position but McNugget postures up.
McNugget throwing strikes but missing.
McNugget really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tudman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Tudman wants to sweep but no luck.

Tudman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Tudman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McNugget controls the pace.

Tudman throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! McNugget escapes and throws Tudman's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Tudman is trying to improve his position.
Tudman wants to control but McNugget postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Tudman closes the distance and clinches up with McNugget, looking for a takedown. Tudman pushes McNugget against the cage but McNugget circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

McNugget fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Tudman on the side of the head.
Tudman shoots in but no luck this time.

McNugget digs a right hand into Tudman's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Tudman's gas tank.
Tudman goes for a takedown attempt but McNugget pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

McNugget throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Tudmans head.
McNugget is pushing Tudman up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Tudman is trying to work for a single leg takedown but McNugget pulls him back up using the underhooks.

McNugget breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Conour McNugget showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Tudman shoots in looking for a takedown. McNugget tries to sprawl out of it but Tudman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McNugget manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Conour McNugget seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tudman is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables McNugget to keep the fight standing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
McNugget unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Tudman! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but McNugget is unloading with more strikes now! Tudman drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!
