Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Quin (ranked 210 p4p, 25 weight class) and Michael Cole (ranked 156 p4p, 19 weight class). Quin comes to the cage accompanied by Captain Jack - Iko Iko. Cole has chosen I Won't Back Down as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Quin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Cole!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Paul Tew and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cole moves into the clinch.
Cole goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Quin manages to break the clinch.
Quin misses the shot to the body.
Cole looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Quin throws a hook to the side of Cole's head but Cole sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Matt Quin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Quin misses with a looping left.
Cole looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Quin lands a lovely overhand right.
Quin comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Cole fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Cole takes the fight into the clinch.
Quin gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cole.

Quin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Good shot there by Quin.

Quin misses with a body shot.
Quin throws an overhand right that lands on Cole's shoulder, as Cole tries to avoid the shot.
Cole ducks under a wild hook from Quin.
Quin misses with a hook.
Cole appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Quin dives in and grabs Cole's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cole pushes down on Quin's head and hops out.

Cole clinches up against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Cole.

Cole is fighting off a takedown attempt but Quin is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Cole to the mat. Cole regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Quin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Cole lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Cole trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Quin looking to control.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Quin is on top in guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Quin working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Cole wants to sweep here but Quin controlling him for the moment.
Quin scoring with some ground and pound.
Quin wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving.
Quin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cole lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Quin seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Quin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cole distracts Quin with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Quin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cole doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cole manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cole postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Quin trying to keep a closed guard but Cole is proving a slippery customer.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Cole got a little sloppy there for a moment and Quin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cole has managed to get both his arms back between Quin's legs - danger averted.
Quin working a defensive guard here.
Quin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cole is one step ahead there.
Cole is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Cole chips away with some ground and pound.
Cole throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Quin is trying to keep Cole in close.
Cole postures up in Quin's guard and throws a big left but Quin blocks it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Quin controls Cole momentarily but Cole frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Matt Quin will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Quin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cole.
Cole misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Quin.
Cole avoids the body shot from Quin.
Quin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Quin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cole manages to avoid it.
Quin backing away here, and Cole unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
A punch lands to the side of Cole 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Quin throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Cole on the side of the head.
Quin is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Cole defending well as Quin loads up on a big left hand.
Matt Quin is winning the standup battle so far.
A clash of legs there as Quin blocks the low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cole buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Quin jabs Cole right on the nose. Cole blinks but takes it well.
Quin misses with an uppercut. Cole saw that one coming.
Cole keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Quin defending well as Cole loads up on a big left hand.
Cole moves into range and connects with a jab.
Quin's corner calls for a 1-2. Quin obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Cole tries to clinch but Quin is having none of it.

Quin tries to keep at a distance but Cole has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cole swings wildly with an uppercut but Quin uses good head movement to avoid it.
Quin lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Cole backwards.
Cole lands a right hand.
Cole tries to work over Quin's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Quin has Cole pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Cole manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Quin successfully pulls guard.
Quin wants to sweep but no luck.
Quin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Cole throws a sloppy strike and Quin has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Cole is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Quin!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Matt Quin!
