Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alden Travis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Dexter ! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dexter stuffs the takedown attempt from Travis. Travis gets slowly back to his feet. John Dexter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Travis closes the distance and clinches up with Dexter , looking for a takedown. Travis pushes Dexter against the cage but Dexter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Dexter looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. A low kick from Dexter is predictable there and Travis counters with a takedown into side control. Travis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dexter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Travis tries to score with some ground and pound. Dexter controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Travis misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Travis throwing shots but missing, from side control. Dexter sneaks back into half guard. Dexter has one foot on Travis's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dexter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Dexter tries for a kimura but Travis is defending well. Travis wants to control but Dexter postures up. Travis managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Dexter .
Dexter is trying to get an arm triangle but Travis is defending well. Travis regains half guard. Travis trying to hold on to Dexter 's head to control him but Dexter postures up.
Dexter is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Dexter seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Travis is controlling Dexter 's position as best he can from this difficult position. Travis avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Dexter . Dexter throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Dexter not landing any meaningful shots this time. Dexter is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Dexter missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Dexter throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Travis tries to roll over but Dexter keeps him under control. Dexter is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Dexter seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Travis is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dexter lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Travis! More strikes land and this one is all over! Dexter jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
