Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Kenichi Hosakawa and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mc Steel swats away the attempt to clinch by Gardiner.
Gardiner darts in and clinches Mc Steel up against the ropes.
Mc Steel is trying to break the clinch but Gardiner has him pressed against the ropes.
Gardiner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mc Steel lands a jab.
Mc Steel lands a nice leg kick that just misses Gardiner's sensitive parts.

and Mc Steel counters with a beautiful hook that drops Gardiner to the mat! Will Gardiner be able to recover his senses? The referee starts the count at 3 having sent Mc Steel to a neutral corner. 4,5,6 and Gardiner is up. He looks OK to continue.

Mc Steel tries to break the clinch but Gardiner is controlling the position.
Mc Steel wants to get back to striking at distance but Gardiner won't allow it.

Gardiner walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Gardiner is still on wobbly legs! Can Mc Steel finish him?
Mc Steel throws a front kick aimed at Gardiner's knee but Gardiner avoids it well.
Gardiner throws a big counter head kick but Mc Steel avoids it with no problem.
Gardiner seems to have recovered his senses.
Striker Mc Steel is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Mc Steel fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gardiner.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Mc Steel counters with a stiff right hand.
Good leg kick by Mc Steel there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Gardiner tries to land a front kick but Mc Steel steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Gardiner tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Mc Steel manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gardiner drives through and clinches with Mc Steel against the ropes.

Mc Steel throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gardiner.
We've been informed that Gardiner has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Mc Steel takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Mc Steel throws a nice outside leg kick.
Mc Steel scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Gardiner chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Mc Steel can pounce on him.

Mc Steel is trying to force a seperation but Gardiner has the dominant position.
Gardiner breaks from the clinch.
Mc Steel throws out a head kick that Gardiner doesn't see coming - it connects and sends Gardiner crashing to the mat face first! He's bounced up to his knees and is scrambling to get back to his feet and beat the count. He's up on 5 but still looks a bit groggy; will the referee allow it to continue??? He's taking a good look into Gardiner's eyes and has decided to let it go on!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mc Steel turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Mc Steel throws a leg kick but Gardiner sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Mc Steel throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mc Steel sets himself, and Gardiner steps forward looking for the clinch! Mc Steel avoids it this time.
Mc Steel cracks Gardiner with a perfect right hand that drops him to the mat! Gardiner is sitting up but I can't see if he's OK from my position. The referee's count has reached 5,6,7 and Gardiner is still not up. Can he make it? 8,9, he's up! Wow, he cut that one a bit fine!

I was talking to Mc Steel's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Gardiner's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Gardiner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Gardiner takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Harry Gardiner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mc Steel closes the distance and catches Gardiner with a lead hook that drops him to the canvas! Gardiner is clearly dazed and struggling here! 3,4,5,6,7 and Gardiner is up to his feet but the referee has called it off! Gardiner is still far too wobbly and he's not going to allow the fight to continue! Mc Steel takes it!
