Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Diego Daugherty! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joao Freitas! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Albert Achterberg and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Freitas shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Freitas showed some decent athleticism there. Daugherty tries to get to full guard but Freitas has control of the leg. Freitas trying to control the action but Daugherty is working from the bottom. Freitas wants to work for an arm triangle but Daugherty is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Freitas is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Freitas is trying to work for a kimura but Daugherty is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round. Freitas is looking to advance position but Daugherty won't allow it. Freitas is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Freitas is trying to work for a kimura but Daugherty is defending well.
Daugherty is refusing to be controlled, as Freitas sits in half guard. Freitas prevents Daugherty from improving his position. Daugherty is holding on to half guard well. Daugherty is staying active underneath Freitas, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Freitas is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Freitas is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Daugherty is just riding it out for now. Freitas eventually gives up the hold. Freitas is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Freitas looks winded! Freitas is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Daugherty defends it well. Daugherty is controlling Freitas's position as best he can from this difficult position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Daugherty tries to roll over but Freitas keeps him under control. Freitas maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Daugherty could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Freitas has cracked it and Daugherty is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Freitas!
