PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Optus Coll (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vini Marinho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vini Marinho!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coll clinches.
Marinho with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Coll stalling.

Coll breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Coll closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Marinho is looking to reverse the position.
Coll is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Marinho will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Marinho tries to buck Coll off but Coll is having none of it.

Coll stands up and beckons Marinho to his feet.

Marinho is looking to improve his position.
Marinho is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Coll's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Coll's back!
Marinho is throwing shots to the body but Coll manages to wriggle free. Marinho pounces on him again and ends up in Coll's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Marinho might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Coll kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Marinho fails with the takedown

and Coll decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Marinho's guard.

Marinho utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Marinho had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Coll is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Marinho Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Coll's back instead.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Coll rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Marinho slips a nice elbow through Coll's hands, connecting with Coll's forehead.
Coll makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Coll.
Coll looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Coll wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Coll is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Marinho working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Coll doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Coll manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Coll is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Coll wants to lay and pray for a moment but Marinho keeps working.
Marinho is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Coll wants to control but Marinho is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Optus Coll will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Marinho shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Coll is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Coll gets underhooks to prevent Marinho's takedown attempt.

Marinho jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Coll walks away with a smile on his face. Marinho gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Optus Coll has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vini Marinho.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Coll is fighting to break Marinho's control of his arms but Marinho is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Marinho thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Coll is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Marinho gets his way!

Marinho won't let Coll get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Marinho prevents Coll from getting the reversal.

Vini Marinho comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Coll has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
