Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ed Whitaker (ranked 7179 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gregory Marks (ranked 3487 p4p, 0 weight class). Marks has chosen I'm Not a Gentleman as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ed Whitaker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gregory Marks! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marks dives in and scores a takedown into Whitaker's guard. Marks wants to get up but he can't break Whitaker's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Whitaker is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Marks is aware though and is defending well. Marks wants to control from the top but Whitaker keeps moving. Marks drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Marks jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Marks trying to control the position from guard on top but Whitaker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Whitaker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Marks controls the pace of the fight for a moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Whitaker will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Whitaker keeping moving, preventing Marks from controlling successfully. Marks slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Whitaker scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marks is controlling Whitaker's trapped leg to prevent Whitaker from advancing to side control. Marks is continuing to stall. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Whitaker looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Marks missing with punches from the bottom.
Whitaker wants to take a breather but Marks is having none of it. Whitaker really is a fat lump. Whitaker scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Whitaker is working for a kimura but Marks is defending it quite comfortably.
Marks is controlling Whitaker's trapped leg to prevent Whitaker from advancing to side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Marks keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Whitaker thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Marks's head. Whitaker wants to work for an arm triangle but Marks is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Whitaker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Marks on the ground. Marks has his hands clasped together around Whitaker's back. He's all about the action. Whitaker throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Marks tries to roll over but Whitaker keeps him under control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marks controlling the position well. Whitaker prevents Marks from improving his position. Whitaker looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Marks with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Whitaker is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Marks sees it coming and defends easily. Marks slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Whitaker loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Marks has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Marks working for a triangle but Whitaker defends it easily.
Marks wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Whitaker throws a big elbow that misses. Whitaker is working Marks over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Marks is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Whitaker wants to get up but he can't break Marks's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Marks is on top in guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Ed Whitaker will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Marks tries to score a power double leg takedown but Whitaker sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Marks somewhat. Marks is looking to clinch. Marks tries to clinch there but Whitaker circles away.
Whitaker stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Whitaker wants it to stay on the feet. Whitaker was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Marks tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Whitaker swivels and escapes. Ed Whitaker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gregory Marks. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marks takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Marks gets in close and instigates a clinch. Whitaker pulls guard effortlessly.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marks working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Marks got a little sloppy there for a moment and Whitaker has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Marks has managed to get both his arms back between Whitaker's legs - danger averted. Marks wants to control from the top but Whitaker keeps moving. Marks controls from within his opponent's guard. Whitaker keeping moving, preventing Marks from controlling successfully. Whitaker is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Marks is pushing down on Whitaker's leg trying to pass to half guard. Whitaker is fighting to maintain full guard but Marks has managed to sneak the leg through. Marks keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Marks working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Whitaker's thigh. Whitaker counters though and makes it back to full guard. Marks throwing strikes but missing. Marks won't allow Whitaker to get back to his feet. Marks throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Marks slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Marks working the ground and pound but Whitaker is defending the strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marks is looking to take a break and control but Whitaker is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Marks is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Whitaker is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The referee asks Marks politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Marks prefers to stall for the moment though. Gregory Marks has got the better of the ground game so far. Marks is trying to get an arm triangle but Whitaker is defending well. Marks tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Marks has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marks wants to lay and pray for a moment but Whitaker keeps working. Marks is trying to get an arm triangle but Whitaker is defending well. Gregory Marks showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Marks tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Whitaker swivels and escapes. Whitaker was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Marks fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Whitaker scores with a jab to the body. Marks fails with a takedown attempt. Ed Whitaker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gregory Marks. Marks shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Whitaker pinned against the cage. Whitaker gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marks fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Marks uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Whitaker.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whitaker throws a jab but it's blocked by Marks. Whitaker sets himself, and Marks steps forward looking for the clinch! Whitaker avoids it this time. Marks darts in looking for a takedown but Whitaker gets double underhooks and turns Marks into the cage. Marks misses with a takedown and Whitaker counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Marks takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Whitaker jabs Marks to the body, keeping him at a distance. Whitaker is looking to clinch. Whitaker swats away the attempt to clinch by Marks. An attempted straight right counter from Whitaker misses the target. Marks fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Whitaker avoids it really well and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whitaker looking to score a takedown here. Marks is defending well but Whitaker drives through and ends up in Marks's guard. Marks looking to control.
Marks has his foot on Whitaker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Whitaker works his way back into a safe position though. Whitaker stopping the sweep attempt from Marks. Whitaker postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Marks utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Whitaker makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Marks is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Marks had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Whitaker defends it easily. Whitaker with a nice head shot there. Whitaker really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill... Marks is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Whitaker lands a couple of digs. Whitaker lands a couple of elbows. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Whitaker accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Whitaker postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Whitaker trying to stand up but can't free himself from Marks's guard. Marks is trying to control the position but Whitaker postures up. Whitaker postures up in Marks's guard and throws a big left but Marks blocks it. Whitaker is looking to work some ground and pound but Marks has wrist control. Whitaker throws a big right hand that misses. Whitaker is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Marks can do to turn this around? Whitaker trying to stand up but can't free himself from Marks's guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Marks is on top in guard.
Marks won't allow Whitaker to sweep him here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Marks passes Whitaker's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Marks in particular looking to stall.
And that's the end of the fight! Ed Whitaker showed his dominance in that final round. I think Whitaker has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
