PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Grigori Rasputin (ranked 243 p4p, 9 weight class) and Greg Bell (ranked 1931 p4p, 70 weight class). Greg Bell told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Grigori Rasputin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greg Bell! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bell looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Rasputin darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Rasputin throws a good cross that connects.
Bell takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Bell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rasputin pinned against the cage. Rasputin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Rasputin checks a leg kick. Rasputin instigates a clinch. Rasputin misses with a punch on the inside.
Rasputin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bell misses with a combination
and Rasputin counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rasputin. Our sources have told us that Rasputin has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight. Rasputin lands a body shot in the clinch.
Rasputin gets through Bell's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rasputin creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. A short uppercut from Rasputin. A short body shot lands from Rasputin as the two fighters clinch.
Rasputin throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Rasputin breaks the clinch.
Rasputin closes the distance and pushes Bell back into the cage. Rasputin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Bell walks into a left hand. Rasputin pushes Bell up against the cage in a clinch. A right hand to the body from Rasputin.
Rasputin lands a shot to the body. Rasputin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bell gets the takedown into side control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rasputin is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Bell asserts his dominance and retains side control. Bell working the ground and pound but Rasputin is defending the strikes. Rasputin is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Rasputin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bell on the ground. Bell sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Rasputin is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Bell advances to full mount. Bell scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Rasputin?
Rasputin is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bell lands a heavy elbow. Rasputin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rasputin tries to get out of the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bell working the ground and pound effectively.
Rasputin squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Bell controlling the position easily from mount. Bell raining down hammerfists from mount. Rasputin is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Bell controlling the pace for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. BOOM! Bell connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Bell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Bell is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Rasputin has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bell lands a big shot there that rocks Rasputin but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
A big strike lands for Bell! That's really hurt Rasputin and he's turned his back - Bell keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Bell jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Greg Bell! Greg Bell very nearly forgot to thank IniTech Nutrition amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you. Grigori Rasputin was interviewed post fight and said 'IN YOUR ARSE !!!'.
