Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Taz Melodies! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Tyson! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Melodies closes the distance and pushes Tyson back into the cage. Melodies can't find room to land a body shot as Tyson controls the action.
Melodies lands a body punch in the clinch. Melodies just leaning against Tyson, taking a breather. Melodies dodges an elbow strike from Tyson.
A right handed body shot lands from Melodies.
Tyson breaks from the clinch.
Melodies throws a head kick that misses. Melodies connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Tyson's hands. Melodies cracks Tyson with an open hand slap. Melodies displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Tyson. Tyson feints and as Melodies raises his hands in defense, Tyson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Melodies working a defensive guard here.
Tyson stops Melodies from standing up. Melodies is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Midnight MMA that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Tyson is stalling in the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tyson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Melodies is keeping the position for now. Melodies looking to control.
Tyson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Tyson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Taz Melodies is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Tyson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Melodies is concentrating on defense, preventing Tyson from advancing position. Melodies is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Tyson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Tyson's back! Tyson has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Tyson turns into Melodies and is now in his guard.
Tyson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Melodies's guard. Tyson wants to pass the guard but Melodies is defending well. Tyson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Melodies tries to roll over but Tyson keeps him under control. Tyson in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Melodies tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Tyson!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Frank Tyson! A very excited looking Frank Tyson made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet.
