And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bart Vale!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cruz drives through with a takedown into guard.

Vale uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Cruz throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Vale tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cruz is in Vale's guard.

Vale scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cruz tries to land a front kick but Vale steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
A head kick misses from Vale.
Vale looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Cruz leaves Vale with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Vale shoots in for a takedown but Cruz shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Cruz changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Cruz tries a head kick but it misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Vale enables Cruz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Vale manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vale utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Vale preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Cruz throws an elbow that misses. Vale uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cruz's guard. Nice move by Vale!

Vale seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Cruz on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cruz tries to get out of the position.

Vale thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Vale is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cruz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Cruz closes the distance and clinches up with Vale, looking for a takedown. Cruz pushes Vale against the cage but Vale circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Vale throws out a counter right but Cruz avoids it with no problem.
Cruz tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Vale defends well and Cruz ends up having to push Vale into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
