Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Elwood Blair! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon David! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! David gets a double leg takedown into Blair's guard. Blair has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes David off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Blair tries to sprawl but David drives through with a takedown into half guard. Blair pushes David off and gets back to his feet. Jon David seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. David is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Blair's half guard. Blair manages to escape and get back to his feet! David connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. David scores with a three punch combo!
It looks like Elwood Blair has been cut. David throws a left and a right that both miss
and Blair counters with a three punch combo that has David backing up. David nods at Blair to acknowledge the strikes. David shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Blair kicks David off and gets back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. David wants to clinch. David closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Blair pushes David off and gets back to his feet. Blair scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. David tries to roll over but Blair keeps him under control. David has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Blair is working away from the top position though. Blair missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Blair working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Blair throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Blair is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. David pushes Blair off looking to stand but Blair dives back in and keeps control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. David wants to improve his position but Blair is controlling well.
Blair could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Blair sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. David defending well though. David is trying to get back to full guard. Blair is thwarting David's attempts to control the position. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Blair stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. David scores with a sloppy right hand. Blair should have avoided that one.
That's four minutes gone in the round. David wants to clinch up but Blair keeps it at a distance. As David looks to move away, Blair throws a big counter combo but David just gets out of the way. David defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Blair. David closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - David lands in his opponent's guard. David would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Blair has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. David doesn't defend quickly enough and Blair has managed to lock this one up! Can David escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Blair on a fantastic submission victory.
