Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Abel Trujilo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Royce Da Silva! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Trujilo tries to sprawl but Da Silva drives through with a takedown into half guard. Trujilo kicks Da Silva off and gets back to his feet. Trujilo has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Da Silva shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Trujilo's guard. Trujilo wants to get back to his feet but Da Silva is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Da Silva drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Trujilo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Da Silva has Trujilo in his guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Da Silva is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Trujilo defends well. Trujilo trying to control the position from guard on top but Da Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Trujilo showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Trujilo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Da Silva for as long as he can get away with.
That's one minute gone in the round. Da Silva had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Trujilo defends it easily. Da Silva wants to get back to his feet but Trujilo is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Da Silva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Trujilo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Trujilo wants to control from the top but Da Silva keeps moving. Trujilo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Trujilo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Da Silva looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Da Silva is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. A close round but Royce Da Silva will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Da Silva is pushing down on Trujilo's leg trying to pass to half guard. Trujilo is fighting to maintain full guard but Da Silva has managed to sneak the leg through. Da Silva seems to be working for a kimura but Trujilo defends the submission attempt. Da Silva thows a huge punch but Trujilo dodges it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Da Silva is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Da Silva seems to be working for a kimura but Trujilo defends the submission attempt. Da Silva is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Da Silva is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Trujilo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Da Silva. Da Silva is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Da Silva trying to control from Trujilo's half guard. Trujilo has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Da Silva throws a big elbow that misses. Royce Da Silva has got the better of the ground game so far. Da Silva thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Royce Da Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Trujilo looks to land a combination but Da Silva avoids it well. Trujilo throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Da Silva tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Trujilo defends well and Da Silva ends up having to push Trujilo into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Trujilo lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Trujilo throws a right hand that Da Silva ducks under and follows up with a left that Da Silva also avoids with ease. Trujilo lands with a right hand. Da Silva dives in and scores a takedown into Trujilo's guard. Da Silva throws a big right hand that misses. Da Silva drops back, looking for a kneebar! Trujilo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Trujilo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Trujilo!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Da Silva tries to escape but Trujilo is in control. Da Silva is not content to let Trujilo control the position. Trujilo has knee on belly momentarily but Da Silva bucks him off and regains half guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Da Silva scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Trujilo manages to mount him!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Da Silva can do anything to dispel that myth. Trujilo trying to control but Da Silva is having none of it. Da Silva is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
