Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alden Travis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Keiren ONeill! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Paulsen Ambrosius and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! ONeill is looking to clinch but Travis is avoiding it.
ONeill throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. ONeill stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and ONeill wants it to stay on the feet. ONeill bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. ONeill working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. ONeill stands up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Travis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. ONeill did well to prevent Travis getting side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Travis prevents ONeill from improving his position. Travis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Travis missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Travis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and ONeill defends it well. Travis seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead ONeill has recovered full guard. Travis throwing strikes but missing. Travis wants to get up but he can't break ONeill's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. ONeill escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Travis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Travis is working ONeill over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. ONeill is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Travis postures up and lands a big shot to ONeill's brow. ONeill looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Travis won't allow ONeill to sweep him here. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Travis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Travis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Travis throws a big right hand that misses. Travis cracks ONeill with a solid left hand. Travis content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Travis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. ONeill is trying to keep Travis in close.
Travis is looking to work some ground and pound but ONeill has wrist control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. ONeill wants to sweep but no luck. ONeill looks winded! ONeill is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Travis scoring with punches to the head and body. Travis stands up from ONeill's guard - Travis perhaps looking for a knockout. Excellent takedown into side control there by Travis. ONeill bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! ONeill shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Travis is trying to defend but ONeill finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Travis kicks off ONeill and gets to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. ONeill gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Travis counters with a one-two to the body. Travis checks a low kick from ONeill. ONeill tries to score a power double leg takedown but Travis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten ONeill somewhat. Excellent takedown into side control there by Travis. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A head kick by ONeill misses and Travis counters with a one-two to the body. Travis with a lazy takedown attempt and ONeill counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. ONeill defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Travis. ONeill shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Travis pinned against the cage. Travis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. As ONeill looks to move away, Travis throws a big counter combo but ONeill just gets out of the way. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Travis with a poor takedown and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. ONeill drives through with a takedown into Travis's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. ONeill must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. ONeill trying to control the position from guard on top but Travis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Travis is trying to control the position but ONeill postures up. Travis looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks ONeill with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Alden Travis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Travis wants to work for an arm triangle but ONeill is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Travis throwing strikes from guard but ONeill blocks nicely. ONeill wants to stand but Travis is controlling the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. ONeill has his hands on Travis's head, controlling the position. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Travis lands a couple of digs. Travis is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Travis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Alden Travis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Travis circles away from the clinch attempt.

Travis is working ONeill over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Travis gets to his feet - ONeill follows without any prompting. Travis throws a sloppy head kick and ONeill counters with a three punch combo that has Travis backing up. Travis nods at ONeill to acknowledge the strikes. Travis with a poor takedown and ONeill counters with a left and a right that stings Travis. This has been an exciting period of action! Travis has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by ONeill. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Travis lands a nice looking body shot.
Keiren ONeill has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Alden Travis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Travis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but ONeill avoids it really well and circles away.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alden Travis. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Travis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
