Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lee Hyoja! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Pot! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hyoja shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hyoja was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Hyoja working away. Hyoja remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Pot is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Hyoja decides to stand back up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pot closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hyoja circles away. Hyoja tries a head kick but it misses.
Pot unleashes a big counter combination but Hyoja bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. A swing and a miss from Hyoja. Hyoja scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Pot preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hyoja drops an elbow to the side of Pot's head. Hyoja prevents Pot from improving his position. Hyoja decides to return to a standing position. Pot wants to clinch. Hyoja shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hyoja was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Pot is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hyoja working the ground and pound. You can see the frustration on Pot's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Hyoja lands a nice forearm strike. Pot tries to buck Hyoja off but Hyoja is having none of it. Hyoja lands a strong strike to the head of Pot. That's dazed him! Hyoja looking to finish here. Pot is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Hyoja lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lee Hyoja! A very excited looking Lee Hyoja made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
