PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Serb Killer (ranked 9271 p4p, 717 weight class) and Rafal Mazur (ranked 4786 p4p, 501 weight class). Mazur is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Nothing More - Here's to Heartache. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of London, Serb Killer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rafal Mazur!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mazur misses with a head kick.
Killer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mazur as he avoids it easily.
Mazur raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Mazur goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Killer throws a head kick but Mazur moves out of range.

Mazur darts in and clinches Killer up against the cage.
Mazur tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Killer breaks from the clinch.
Mazur slaps away a takedown attempt from Killer, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Mazur darts in and clinches Killer up against the cage.
Killer tries to pull guard but Mazur holds him up against the cage and eventually Killer drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Serb Killer. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Killer tries for a takedown but Mazur manages to get underhooks.

Mazur is working for takedown but Killer is calmly controlling the position for now.

Killer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Killer gets tackled into the cage by Mazur. Mazur maintains the clinch.
Killer is trying to drag Mazur to the mat but Mazur just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Killer tries to score a body lock takedown but Mazur shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Killer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Killer shoots in but no luck this time.
Mazur tries a quick counter leg kick but Killer is wise to it.
Killer will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Mazur takes the fight into the clinch.
Mazur lands an elbow just above Killer 's eye.
Killer is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mazur to keep the fight standing.

Mazur pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Killer on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Mazur has managed to clinch.
Mazur trying to stall but Killer improves his position.

Killer manages to break the clinch.

Mazur fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Killer, pushing him back against the cage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mazur jumps into guard, dragging Killer to the mat.
Mazur keeping moving, preventing Killer from controlling successfully.

Killer is looking to stand up but Mazur won't let him.

Mazur had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Killer defends it easily.
Mazur pulls Killer in close to prevent any damage.
Killer wants to stand but Mazur has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Killer wants to control from the top but Mazur keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Killer shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mazur as he jumps to the side.

Killer closes the distance and clinches.
Mazur wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Mazur can't break the clinch.

Killer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Killer fails in his attempt to clinch.
Killer tries to clinch up but Mazur circles away and keeps his distance.

Killer gets tackled into the cage by Mazur. Mazur maintains the clinch.
Killer takes a knee right on the jaw!
Killer is trying to pull guard but Mazur has him pressed against the cage.
Killer is working for takedown but Mazur is calmly controlling the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Mazur counters with a nice leg kick.
Killer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mazur misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Killer.

Mazur closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Killer tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mazur smiles and moves away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Killer throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Mazur blocks it with crossed arms.
Mazur tries to circle away but Killer has him pinned against the cage.

Killer manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Killer fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Mazur swings wildly with an uppercut but Killer uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mazur gets underhooks to prevent Killer's takedown attempt.

Killer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Killer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Killer looks for a takedown but Mazur sprawls well.

Mazur misses with a series of wild punches.
Mazur tries to clinch up.
Killer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Mazur! But no joy.
Killer tries to land a front kick but Mazur steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Serb Killer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mazur takes the fight into the clinch.
Rafal Mazur seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Mazur wants to break the clinch but can't.
Mazur tries to stall but Killer uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Killer ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Killer no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Mazur decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Killer, up you get!

Mazur is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rafal Mazur showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Killer walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Killer ducks under a wild hook from Mazur.
Killer went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Killer doesn't manage to clinch there - Mazur circles away.
Killer wants to clinch up but Mazur keeps it at a distance.
Rafal Mazur seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Killer tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mazur has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sloppy strikes from Killer. Those never looked like landing.
Killer fails to land the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mazur forces Killer back against the cage and clinches.

Killer gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Mazur is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Killer's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Killer's back!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mazur is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Killer defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

A lull in the action here.

Mazur is persistently looking for the submission but Killer is defending it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Killer avoids the strikes from Mazur.

Mazur throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Killer!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mazur is looking for the choke from the back position but Killer is controlling his hands well.

Mazur is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Killer is defending well though. Mazur let's go of the attempt for now.

Killer is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Mazur.

Mazur is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Mazur gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Mazur gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Mazur apologises and we restart here on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Killer.
Mazur tries to counter with a clinch but Killer shakes him off and moves away.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Mazur takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Well Mazur has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
