Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Garland Hogan (ranked 25029 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leif Monsen (ranked 5833 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Garland Hogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leif Monsen!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Monsen gets a clinch.
Monsen swings wildly with an uppercut but Hogan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hogan really is a fat lump.
Monsen is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Hogan is defending well for now.
Hogan prevents the takedown attempt.
Monsen misses with a body punch.
Hogan wants to get back to striking at distance but Monsen won't allow it.
Monsen has Hogan pressed against the cage, preventing Hogan from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monsen is trying to break the clinch but Hogan is controlling him.
Monsen tries to pull guard but Hogan holds him up against the cage and eventually Monsen drops back down to his feet.
Hogan keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Monsen's efforts to push away.

Monsen is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Monsen tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Hogan avoids it.
Hogan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Monsen - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Monsen is trying to pull guard but Hogan has him pressed against the cage.

Monsen is trying to break the clinch but Hogan is controlling him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Monsen misses with a head kick.
It looked like Hogan was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Monsen feints and as Hogan raises his hands in defense, Monsen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Monsen wanted to stand there but Hogan had control of the position.
Monsen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Monsen tries to free his leg and advance position but Hogan is retaining full guard.
Hogan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Hogan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Monsen sees it coming and defends easily.
Hogan is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Hogan is working for a kimura but Monsen is defending it quite comfortably.

Monsen tries to kick Hogan off in order to stand up. Hogan Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Hogan stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Monsen shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hogan defends it nicely.

Monsen darts in and clinches Hogan up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hogan prevents a takedown attempt there.
Monsen stalling against the cage.
Monsen using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Hogan has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Monsen is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Monsen jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hogan walks away with a smile on his face. Monsen gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Leif Monsen will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Monsen fails to land the takedown.
Monsen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hogan tries to avoid it but Monsen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hogan to the ground. Hogan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hogan stuffs the takedown attempt from Monsen. Monsen gets slowly back to his feet.
Garland Hogan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leif Monsen.
Hogan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Monsen fails with a takedown attempt.
Hogan half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monsen takes a swing at Hogan's ribcage but misses.
Monsen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hogan feinted with a counter takedown.
Monsen looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Hogan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Monsen is trying to force a seperation but Hogan has the dominant position.
Monsen goes for a takedown attempt but Hogan pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Hogan darts in and clinches Monsen up against the cage.

Monsen has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hogan after a bit of a struggle.
Monsen missing with knees to the body.
Monsen tries to pull guard but Hogan forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Monsen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hogan pulls his leg out and moves away.
Monsen is breathing heavily.

Hogan tries to clinch up.

Hogan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Hogan stays in close to Monsen's body and controls the position.
Hogan works over Monsen with some ground and pound from guard.

Monsen isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hogan stacks Monsen on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hogan!

Hogan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Monsen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hogan lands a decent elbow from side control.

Hogan decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Monsen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hogan circles away.

Hogan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hogan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hogan slows the pace down.

Hogan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Hogan drives through with a takedown into Monsen's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Monsen is wriggling around but Hogan manages to pass to half guard.

Hogan decides to stand and escape the position.
Monsen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Hogan went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Monsen fails with a takedown attempt.
Hogan circles away from the clinch attempt.
Monsen is looking to clinch but Hogan is avoiding it.
Monsen tries to close the distance and clinch but Hogan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The fight stays on the outside here - Monsen looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Monsen throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Monsen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Hogan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hogan leaves Monsen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Hogan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Monsen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hogan swivels and escapes.
Leif Monsen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hogan shoots in but no luck this time.
Hogan is looking to clinch but Monsen is avoiding it.
Hogan dives in and grabs Monsen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Monsen pushes down on Hogan's head and hops out.
Monsen keeps the fight on the outside.
Hogan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Monsen can do to turn this around?

Monsen tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Monsen is trying to pull guard but Hogan has him pressed against the cage.
Monsen drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hogan gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Monsen has had enough of the clinch but Hogan keeps him there for the moment.

Well Hogan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
