PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Glen Marshal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hoochi Min (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Glen Marshal !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hoochi Min!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Sano and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marshal gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Min tries to free his leg and advance position but Marshal is retaining full guard.
Min controlling from the top position.
Min landing with the ground and pound.
Marshal being controlled here, momentarily.
Min trying to control but Marshal is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Min stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marshal swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Min slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Min throwing strikes but missing.
Min looking to pass the guard.
Min trying to control but Marshal is working from the bottom.
Marshal utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Min trying to control the position from guard on top but Marshal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Min decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Marshal , up you get!

Min has Marshal up against the cage in a clinch.
Min blocks an elbow strike from Marshal .
Min avoids the elbow strike from Marshal , against the cage.
Min takes an elbow to the forehead.
Min is working for takedown but Marshal is calmly controlling the position for now.
Min is trying to break free.
Marshal lands an elbow inside that Min shrugs off.
Min dodges an elbow strike from Marshal .
Min wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Min wants to get back to striking at distance but Marshal won't allow it.
Marshal has had enough of the clinch but Min keeps him there for the moment.

Marshal is trying to break free.

Marshal throws an elbow that misses.
Marshal is breathing heavily.
Min pressing his opponent against the cage.

Min jumps into guard, dragging Marshal to the mat.
Marshal knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Min on the ground.

Min looking for a guillotine here but Marshal defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Min looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Marshal misses with a kick to the body.

Min looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Marshal fails to land with a series of punches.
Min tries to clinch up but Marshal circles away and keeps his distance.
Glen Marshal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Marshal has taken the fight to the clinch.

Min gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Min missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Min is looking for a kimura here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Min wants to control but Marshal is keeping him busy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Min prevents Marshal from standing back up.
Min stalling.
Min trying to advance position but Marshal counters by regaining guard.
Min slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Min gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Marshal lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Min darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Min postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Marshal to stand up.
Marshal lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Min.
Min passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Marshal !

Min controlling the position easily from mount.
Min lands a big shot there that rocks Marshal but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Marshal is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Min goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Marshal turns into him and now he's in Min's guard.
Min is looking to stand up but Marshal isn't so interested in that idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Marshal wants to stand and escape but instead Min has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Marshal can't keep his opponent in guard - Min advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Still in half guard, Min seems content to control.
Marshal blocking the ground and pound attempt from Min.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hoochi Min showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Marshal dodges the punch combination from Min.
Marshal is looking to clinch but Min is avoiding it.
Min takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Marshal misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Marshal lands a really nice looking cross but Min seems unphased.

Min shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Min with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Marshal looks like he's trying to stand up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Min trying to mount his opponent but Marshal defends it.

Min sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Hoochi Min has got the better of the ground game so far.
Min content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Marshal pushes Min off looking to stand but Min dives back in and keeps control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Min decides to stand and escape the position.
Some bone on bone action there as Marshal checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Marshal moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
A head kick misses from Marshal .
Marshal looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Marshal goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Glen Marshal is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Marshal wants to clinch.

and Min counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Min.

Min wants to get back to striking at distance but Marshal won't allow it.

Marshal lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Min blocks the elbow strike.

Min tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Min is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Marshal is keeping busy.
With the fighters up against the cage, Marshal throws an elbow but misses.
Marshal lands a damaging elbow.
Min blocks the elbow strike.

Min drops down looking for an ankle pick but Marshal pulls his leg out and moves away.
Marshal digs a good hook to Min's body.

Min not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Min stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Marshal lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

Marshal breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Marshal jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Marshal throws a head kick that misses.

Min gets to his feet. Marshal looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Min shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Min was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Marshal squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Min wants to control but Marshal has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Glen Marshal has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Min winds up and cracks Marshal with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hoochi Min comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Min winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
