In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 4 losses; Horacio Martins! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; John Smith! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Martins dives in and scores a takedown into Smith's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Martins (2) vs (0) Smith Martins stands and throws Smith's legs to the side, diving into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Martins (5) vs (0) Smith Smith struggling a bit here. Martins tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith is letting Martins control him for a moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Martins's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smith is trying to get back to half guard. Smith looks winded!
That's one minute gone in the round. Martins has hold of Smith's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Smith seems comfortable defending it but Martins has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Smith is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Smith is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Martins couldn't care less - he's delighted!
