Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Michaels! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, James Harrison! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, William Peck and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Michaels changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Harrison tries to avoid it but Michaels manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Harrison to the ground. Harrison escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Michaels throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Horrible takedown by Harrison or perhaps it was just good defense by Michaels which made him look bad. Michaels misses with a head kick.
Jason Michaels seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Michaels tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Harrison paws at him with a jab and circles away. Michaels throws a leg kick but Harrison sees it coming and checks it nicely. Michaels throws a wild body kick that Harrison sees coming a mile off. Harrison with a lazy takedown attempt and Michaels counters with a series of strikes. Harrison will be more careful next time no doubt. Harrison shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Michaels as he jumps to the side. Jason Michaels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Harrison. Harrison lands a high kick!
Harrison gets caught flat footed, as Michaels shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Harrison tries to land a sweep but no joy. Michaels pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Harrison is keeping the position for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Michaels won't allow Harrison to sweep him here. Harrison working a defensive guard here.
Michaels seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Michaels trying to control the position from guard on top but Harrison is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Harrison working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Michaels.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Harrison throws a left and a right that both miss
so Michaels counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Harrison looks gassed! Michaels makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Michaels pushing down on Harrison's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Michaels controlling the action here. Harrison is trying to maintain the position but Michaels is very close to passing his half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Harrison tries to get to full guard but Michaels has control of the leg.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Michaels not doing much here.
Michaels has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jason Michaels dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Michaels tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Harrison paws at him with a jab and circles away. A head kick by Michaels misses and Harrison counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Michaels is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Michaels looking to control.
Michaels has his hands on Harrison's head, controlling the position. Harrison is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harrison won't allow Michaels to sweep him here. Michaels wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Jason Michaels just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Harrison gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Michaels. Harrison misses with a takedown attempt and Michaels connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Michaels rushes Harrison and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Michaels jumps guard.
Michaels has his hands on Harrison's head, controlling the position. Harrison prevents Michaels from getting back to his feet. Michaels pushes Harrison off and gets back to his feet.
Michaels fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Harrison, pushing him back against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Michaels manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Harrison stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Michaels swivels though and keeps the full guard. Harrison being controlled here momentarily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Michaels is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Harrison wants to sweep but Michaels has passed to side control! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jason Michaels dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Michaels looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Michaels misses with a head shot. Harrison uses the momentum to regain guard. Harrison is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Michaels trying to control but Harrison is working from the bottom. Harrison takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Michaels trying to stand up but can't free himself from Harrison's guard. Harrison keeping moving, preventing Michaels from controlling successfully. Michaels stands up from guard. Let's bang!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Michaels doesn't manage to clinch there - Harrison circles away.
Michaels shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Michaels stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Harrison swivels though and keeps the full guard. Jason Michaels overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Michaels is working hard here to advance position. Michaels stands and steps away. Harrison gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Michaels closes the distance but Harrison moves to the side and Harrison counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Michaels!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Harrison stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Michaels shoots in and bounces Harrison off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Michaels preventing the sweep. Harrison is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Michaels avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Harrison keeping moving, preventing Michaels from controlling successfully. Michaels advances position into side control! James Harrison has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Jason Michaels is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Michaels decides to stand up, so the ref orders Harrison to his feet.
And that's the end of the fight! Jason Michaels showed his dominance in that final round. Well Michaels has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
