PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luke Bailey (ranked 2653 p4p, 345 weight class) and Jimi Toa (ranked 3416 p4p, 422 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Bailey!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimi Toa!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Toa throws a body punch but Bailey moves out of range.
Bailey tries to counter by clinching up but Toa breaks away and moves out of range.
Bailey is trying hard to land a takedown here. Toa sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Toa swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Bailey walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Bailey shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Toa as he avoids it easily.
Toa dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bailey takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Bailey manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Toa on his heels. He'll look to pass Toa's guard now, I'm sure.

Toa is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Bailey presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Toa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Bailey fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Toa sprawls well initially but Bailey persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Toa makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Toa tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bailey was well out of range. Poor timing from Toa.
Toa's coach down at Touch Of Death Combat Academy was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Toa's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Toa lands a jab.
Toa uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Bailey has time to react.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Toa lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Toa throws a right hand that Bailey ducks under and follows up with a left that Bailey also avoids with ease.
Bailey feinted with a counter takedown.
Toa stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Toa wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luke Bailey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bailey shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Toa as he avoids it easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bailey.
Toa scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Bailey gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Toa counters with a one-two to the body.

Bailey shoots for a takedown but Toa saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bailey seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Bailey gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Toa counters with a nice body shot.
Toa lands with a right hand.

Bailey throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Toa tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bailey is in Toa's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bailey postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bailey won't allow Toa to get back to his feet.
Bailey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Toa swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Toa wants to stand and escape but Bailey is having none of it.
Bailey throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Toa works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Toa kicks Bailey off and gets to his feet.
Bailey fails with the takedown.
It seemed like Toa was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Toa lands a nice shot that snaps Bailey's head back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimi Toa dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A decent looking cross lands there for Toa.
A jab from Toa does it's job there.
Toa comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Bailey shoots in for a takedown but Toa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Toa throws out a counter right but Bailey avoids it with no problem.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bailey takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Toa scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Bailey shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Toa defends it nicely.
Bailey on the wrong end of a nice hook.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Toa lands with a shot to the body.
Bailey fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luke Bailey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bailey shoots in and drives through. Toa sprawls well.
Toa is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Bailey with a body shot.
Bailey slips a jab and a cross from Toa.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Toa, as that shot connected.
Bailey fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Toa checks it well.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Bailey bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bailey goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Toa has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bailey but great work by Toa.

Toa decides to stand back up.

Toa moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Jimi Toa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Toa swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Bailey shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Toa cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Toa's corner calls for a 1-2. Toa obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
A combination from Toa does no damage.

Toa throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Bailey closes the distance and clinches up with Toa, looking for a takedown. Bailey pushes Toa against the cage but Toa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A nice side step and Toa releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Bailey feints and as Toa raises his hands in defense, Bailey changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimi Toa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Toa bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Bailey has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Toa lunges at Bailey with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Bailey's hand.
Toa tests Bailey's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Toa cracks Bailey with a good jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bailey tries to score a power double leg takedown but Toa sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bailey somewhat.

A shot to the liver by Toa. Beautiful body shot.
Toa cracks Bailey with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Bailey avoids the body shot from Toa.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bailey misses with a takedown attempt
and Toa counters with a straight right hand.
Toa connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Bailey looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Toa is trying to stand.
Bailey throwing shots but Toa is blocking nicely.
Toa is looking to escape.
Bailey misses with a head shot. Toa uses the momentum to regain guard.
Toa wants to stand and escape but Bailey is having none of it.

Toa is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bailey is controlling him.
Bailey scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Toa pushes Bailey off and gets back to his feet.

Toa lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Toa has momentary wrist control but Bailey slips an elbow through the middle.
Bailey pushes down on Toa's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Bailey is trying to control the action in half guard but Toa is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Bailey is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Toa wants to get back to his feet but Bailey is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimi Toa really dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Toa scores with a sloppy right hand. Bailey should have avoided that one.
Bailey looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Toa is fending him off so far but Bailey persists. Nope, Toa circles away and we're back to standing.

Toa tries to sprawl but Bailey drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Bailey is working for a submission of some sort.
Toa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bailey scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Toa is trying to stand back up but Bailey is controlling him
Bailey lands strikes from half guard.
Toa is trying to stand.

Bailey is working for a kimura but Toa is defending it quite comfortably.
Bailey with the ground and pound but Toa uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Bailey has gone for a leg lock! Toa slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bailey's guard.

Toa would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Bailey looking for a triangle here. Toa is fighting it but it looks tight! Bailey pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Toa is tapping out - this one is all over!
