Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Richard Gurd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Danny Caesar! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gurd throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Caesar shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gurd is trying to defend but Caesar finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Caesar trying to control the action but Gurd is working from the bottom. Caesar is looking for a kimura but Gurd is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Caesar to get the leverage. Caesar wants to pass the guard but Gurd is defending well. Caesar passes to side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Caesar is trying to get an arm triangle but Gurd is defending well. Gurd is looking to reverse the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Caesar wants to control but Gurd is keeping him busy. Gurd tries to improve position but can't. Caesar tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Caesar is looking to take a break and control but Gurd is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gurd can't do much from the bottom here. Caesar wants to control but Gurd is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Caesar has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Gurd is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Caesar yanks on the arm and Gurd is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Caesar.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Danny Caesar! Danny Caesar tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
