PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Drake Fury (ranked 2666 p4p, 291 weight class) and Georgi Rasputin (ranked 4134 p4p, 426 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Drake Fury!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Georgi Rasputin!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Michael Johnstone and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rasputin jabs at Fury's body.
No luck for Fury with that takedown attempt.
Rasputin jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fury is defended easily by Rasputin.
Rasputin connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Fury's hands.
Fury fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rasputin avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drake Fury. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fury throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rasputin's waist but Rasputin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fury off to one side.
Rasputin throws a jab when Fury was well out of range.
Rasputin digs a good hook to Fury's body.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Fury.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Fury feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Fury controls from within his opponent's guard.
Rasputin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fury. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fury pushes down on Rasputin's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Fury content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Fury trying to mount his opponent but Rasputin defends it.

Fury is trying to work for a kimura but Rasputin is defending well.

Fury is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rasputin sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fury takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Fury seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rasputin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Fury tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rasputin knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Fury is working hard here to advance position.

Fury is trying to work for a kimura but Rasputin is defending well.
Fury is looking to advance position but Rasputin won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fury keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Rasputin is staying active underneath Fury, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Fury looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Fury is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rasputin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Fury wants to work for an arm triangle but Rasputin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Fury frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Drake Fury dominated that round.
That's time! Fury's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Fury tries for a takedown but Rasputin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
No luck for Fury with that takedown attempt.
Fury takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Rasputin fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Fury dives in and grabs Rasputin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rasputin pushes down on Fury's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drake Fury. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fury gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Rasputin counters by clinching up.
Fury tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rasputin smiles and moves away.

Fury drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Fury wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rasputin, who protects the arm well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fury passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Rasputin!
Fury looking to control but Rasputin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Fury is really struggling to control Rasputin but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Rasputin has left one of his arms exposed and Fury doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Rasputin screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Drake Fury!
In his post fight interview, Drake Fury started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
