PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erling Koch (ranked 4209 p4p, 432 weight class) and Dan Severn (ranked 25068 p4p, 779 weight class). Severn comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Dan Severn Theme kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Erling Koch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Severn!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koch cracks Severn with an open hand slap.
Severn has his takedown stuffed
and Koch counters with a three punch combo that has Severn backing up. Severn nods at Koch to acknowledge the strikes.
Koch catches Severn with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Severn tries for a takedown but Koch circles away easily
and Koch counters with a nice uppercut.
Koch feints a jab promting Severn to slip. Koch then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Severn slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Severn misses with a right hand
and Koch cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Koch cracks Severn with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Koch slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Severn takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
We've been hearing reports that Koch has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Severn shoots in looking for a takedown but Koch manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Severn's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Erling Koch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Severn.
Severn drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Koch leaves Severn with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Severn wants to clinch
and Severn takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Koch's corner calls for a 1-2. Koch obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Koch lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Koch is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Koch lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Koch avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Severn tries to clinch
and Koch counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Koch enables Severn to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Koch manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Koch wriggles free and stands up.
Koch is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Koch lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Koch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Severn takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Koch goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Koch is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Severn is trying hard to land a takedown here. Koch sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Koch lands a head shot.
Severn is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Severn gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Koch counters with a straight right hand.

Koch scores with the left hand. Severn knows he should have avoided that one.
No luck for Severn with that takedown attempt.
Koch connects with a single shot there.
Erling Koch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Koch bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Severn's head backwards.

letting Koch counter with a right hand.
Koch slaps away a takedown attempt from Severn, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Jab, jab by Koch - just one landing.
Koch lands with a right hand.
Severn has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Severn there as he acknowledges the shot.
Koch moves into range and connects with a jab.
Erling Koch is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Severn walks into a jab.
Koch lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Severn tries to move into range but Koch moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Koch lands a two punch combo.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Koch scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Severn misses with a body shot
and Koch counters with a two punch combo.


Severn is rocked!
Koch throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Severn stumbling backwards into the ropes! Severn bounces back off the ropes towards Koch, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Koch lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Koch celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Erling Koch!
