Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anibal Hayes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paulo Perda!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perda throws a hook but Hayes blocks it.

Perda feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hayes is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Perda is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Perda breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Perda looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hayes is fending him off so far but Perda persists. Nope, Hayes circles away and we're back to standing.

Perda moves into the clinch.
Perda has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hayes is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Perda is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Hayes has hold of one of Perda's legs. Perda is fighting the takedown attempt but Hayes gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Perda looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hayes is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Perda wants to improve his position but instead Hayes has moved into half guard.
Hayes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Perda on the ground.
Hayes looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Perda with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Hayes is looking for submissions but instead, Perda has regained full guard.

Perda has his foot on Hayes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hayes works his way back into a safe position though.
Hayes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Perda looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hayes is one step ahead there.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Perda holds on and takes a little breather.

Hayes wants to get up but he can't break Perda's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Perda is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hayes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hayes throws a big right hand that misses.
Hayes postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Perda is trying to keep Hayes in close.
Hayes in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Hayes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Hayes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Perda tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hayes is in Perda's guard.

Hayes takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Perda will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hayes feinted with a counter takedown.
Perda dives in for a single leg takedown but Hayes sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hayes has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Perda is trying to keep an underhook but Hayes manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Perda moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Perda is on top in guard.

Hayes wants to sweep but no luck.
Perda wanted to stand there but Hayes had control of the position.
Perda postures up.
Perda tries to stand but Hayes is controlling from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Perda advances to half guard.
Perda wants to take a breather but Hayes is having none of it.
Perda not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Perda moves into full mount! Hayes won't be happy about that!

Hayes wants to control but Perda is having none of it.

Perda working some short elbows here. He postures up to throw some more ground and pound but Hayes slips a leg through to get back to half guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Perda is working for a submission of some sort.
Hayes tries to get to full guard but Perda has control of the leg.
Perda wants to stand up but Hayes has a hold of him and won't allow it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hayes wants to improve his position but Perda is controlling well.
Hayes is staying active underneath Perda, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hayes slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Perda is looking to stand up but Hayes won't let him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Perda is fighting to break Hayes's control of his arms but Hayes is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paulo Perda showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Hayes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Anibal Hayes.
I think Hayes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
