PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Shishido (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Shishido told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Sano and Hirohito Nitta.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez shoots in but Shishido avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sanchez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Shishido is fending him off so far but Sanchez persists. Nope, Shishido circles away and we're back to standing.

Sanchez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sanchez showed some decent athleticism there.

Shishido kicks Sanchez off and gets back to his feet.
Sanchez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shishido tries to avoid it but Sanchez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shishido to the ground. Shishido escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Shishido fails with an attempt to clinch.

Sanchez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Shishido pushes Sanchez off looking to stand but Sanchez dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Sanchez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shishido's guard.
Shishido wants to stand up but Sanchez is controlling him.

Sanchez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sanchez controls Shishido momentarily but Shishido frees himself.
Sanchez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shishido manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sanchez wants to control from the top but Shishido keeps moving.

Sanchez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Cain Sanchez will probably get the nod.
