PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Sekany (ranked 3383 p4p, 353 weight class) and Mountain Rivera (ranked 9901 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Sekany might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to John Fogerty-Centerfield. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Sekany!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 89 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mountain Rivera!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sekany lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Mountain Rivera has been cut.
Sekany displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Rivera shoots in looking for a takedown. Sekany tries to sprawl out of it but Rivera keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sekany manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
It looked like Sekany was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Rivera looking to score a takedown here. Sekany is defending well but Rivera drives through and ends up in Sekany's guard.

Sekany is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Sekany had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rivera defends it easily.

Sekany is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rivera is aware though and is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rivera throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Rivera cracks Sekany with a solid left hand.

Sekany has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rivera can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've been hearing good reports from Sekany's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rivera missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Rivera seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Sekany working for a triangle but Rivera defends it easily.
Rivera postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Rivera controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Sekany working for a triangle but Rivera defends it easily.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Rivera controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Sekany working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rivera doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rivera manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rivera is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Sekany has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Rivera is looking to defend but Sekany has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Rivera! Sekany pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Rivera taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jake Sekany!
Jake Sekany bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
