Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Donny Mendoza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fiato Ciesto! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksandr Martynov and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ciesto lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Mendoza backs up against the cage.
It looks like Donny Mendoza has been cut. Ciesto drives through and clinches with Mendoza against the cage.
Ciesto's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Ciesto scores with a takedown into Mendoza's guard. Mendoza is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ciesto slips nicely into half guard. Mendoza could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Ciesto wants to work for an arm triangle but Mendoza is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mendoza knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ciesto on the ground. Ciesto is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mendoza defends it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendoza wants to get back to full guard but Ciesto has passed into side control. Ciesto has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Ciesto throws a head kick that misses. Mendoza is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Ciesto. Mendoza gets caught flat footed, as Ciesto shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Ciesto not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ciesto advances position into side control! Ciesto is staying tight to Mendoza's torso, preventing him from escaping. Ciesto stands up and beckons Mendoza to his feet. Ciesto clinches up against the cage. Ciesto pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Ciesto scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendoza tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ciesto wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Ciesto in side control, just content to control the action for now. Ciesto has knee on belly and moves into mount. Ciesto controlling his opponent. Ciesto looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ciesto controlling the pace for now. Mendoza is in all sorts of trouble here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ciesto controlling his opponent. Ciesto working Mendoza over with strikes here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fiato Ciesto dominated that round. The cut man is working on Donny Mendoza's cut. That's time! Mendoza's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Ciesto. Mendoza is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Ciesto's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Mendoza is looking to improve his position.
Ciesto decides to return to a standing position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ciesto stuffs the takedown. Mendoza closes the distance and pushes Ciesto back into the cage. Mendoza is trying to break the clinch but Ciesto has him pressed against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ciesto blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Ciesto has clasped his hands together around Mendoza's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Mendoza is looking to get back to his feet here but Ciesto is keeping cool and he's managed to take Mendoza's back. Ciesto keeps control of the position easily here as Mendoza tries to buck him off.
Ciesto is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Mendoza up.
Ciesto is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Mendoza. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ciesto has the hooks in. Mendoza is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ciesto is riding his opponent, not letting Mendoza buck him off. Mendoza rolls, trying to escape but Ciesto keeps control of the position.
Ciesto sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Mendoza taps out!
