1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Leon Gorshkov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Marco Dresdner! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Peter Branson and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dresdner shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dresdner showed some decent athleticism there. Gorshkov manages to escape and get back to his feet! Gorshkov with a poor takedown and Dresdner counters with a straight right hand. Gorshkov fails with the takedown and Dresdner counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Dresdner displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
It looks like Leon Gorshkov has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Gorshkov shoots for a takedown but Dresdner saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leon Gorshkov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dresdner drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dresdner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gorshkov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Dresdner advances nicely into full mount. Dresdner takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Dresdner scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Gorshkov is looking for a way out. Dresdner biding his time, controlling Gorshkov.

Both fighters are looking very determined. Dresdner controlling from the back. Gorshkov wants to control his opponent's hands but Dresdner gets his hands free. Gorshkov is in bad spot here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Dresdner has the hooks in. Gorshkov is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Gorshkov tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Dresdner is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Gorshkov is surviving well by controlling Dresdner's body position as best he can. Dresdner landing strikes from the mount. Dresdner is thwarting Gorshkov's attempts to control the position. Dresdner wants to advance to full mount but Gorshkov doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Dresdner preventing the sweep. Gorshkov could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gorshkov being controlled here, momentarily. Dresdner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Dresdner looking to pass the guard.

Marco Dresdner has got the better of the ground game so far. Dresdner won't allow Gorshkov to sweep him here. Dresdner slips nicely into half guard. Dresdner missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Gorshkov trying to hold on to Dresdner's head to control him but Dresdner postures up.
Dresdner is working for a kimura but Gorshkov is defending it quite comfortably.

Gorshkov is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Dresdner is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Gorshkov wants to get back to full guard.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Gorshkov fails with the takedown and Dresdner counters by clinching up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dresdner's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Dresdner fails with the takedown and Gorshkov counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Gorshkov misses with a body kick. Gorshkov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Dresdner counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leon Gorshkov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dresdner closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Dresdner lands in his opponent's guard. Gorshkov has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Dresdner has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Dresdner has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Gorshkov clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. A bit of a pause in the action here. Dresdner controlling the positon.

Dresdner has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Gorshkov looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Dresdner really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Gorshkov. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gorshkov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Dresdner feints and as Gorshkov raises his hands in defense, Dresdner changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Gorshkov is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Dresdner dives into side control.
Dresdner decides to stand back up. Dresdner steps back and let's Gorshkov get back to his feet. Dresdner shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gorshkov as he jumps to the side. Dresdner dodges the punch combination from Gorshkov.

and Dresdner counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Dresdner. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Dresdner engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gorshkov has momentary wrist control but Dresdner slips an elbow through the middle. Gorshkov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dresdner defends well. Dresdner in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Dresdner passes into half guard. Dresdner scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Gorshkov is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dresdner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dresdner's back! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dresdner avoids the strikes from Gorshkov. Dresdner holding both Gorshkov 's hands and preventing any damage. Gorshkov struggling to keep hold of the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Gorshkov is punishing Dresdner with some ground and pound. Gorshkov keeps control of the position as Dresdner tries to break free.
Dresdner wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace. Gorshkov throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Dresdner!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gorshkov working for the choke. Dresdner is trying to get back to his feet but Gorshkov has full control of the position and if anything, Dresdner has just worked his way into a worse spot. Gorshkov is trying to stick to Dresdner's back but Dresdner is turning into Gorshkov. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Gorshkov's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Dresdner. Dresdner wants to pass the guard but Gorshkov is keeping the position. Dresdner won't allow Gorshkov to sweep him here. Leon Gorshkov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Marco Dresdner is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Dresdner controlling from the top position.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Leon Gorshkov. Well Dresdner has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
