PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sage Sabin (ranked 2449 p4p, 250 weight class) and Ham Kim (ranked 2908 p4p, 294 weight class). Sabin's entrance music is Supersonic - Oasis. A fine choice. The key to victory for Sage Sabin has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sage Sabin!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ham Kim!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sabin slips a jab and a cross from Kim.
Kim throws a right hand that misses
and Sabin counters with a nice kick to the body.
Kim dodges the punch combination from Sabin.
Nice body kick there by Sabin.

Kim closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Kim has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Sabin after a bit of a struggle.
Kim looking for a takedown.
Kim prevents Sabin from breaking the clinch.
Kim goes for a takedown attempt but Sabin pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Sage Sabin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ham Kim.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sabin dodges the punch combination from Kim.
Sabin looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Kim lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Sabin at a distance.
Kim misses with a takedown attempt - Sabin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sage Sabin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
No joy there for Sabin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kim will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Sabin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kim to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Kim loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kim working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Kim lands a couple of digs.
Kim wants to control from the top but Sabin keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kim accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kim is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Kim with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kim stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sabin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kim lands a couple of elbows.
Sabin is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Kim passes Sabin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Kim scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Kim is nestled in close to Sabin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kim drops an elbow to the side of Sabin's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kim working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kim connects with a nice short shot to Sabin's temple.

Sabin is breathing heavily.
Sabin is trying to stand.
Kim keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Kim is nestled in close to Sabin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Sabin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kim on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sabin is not content to let Kim control the position.
Kim not doing much here.
Kim wants to pass to mount but Sabin is defending the position.
Kim takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Kim lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Ground and pound from Kim.


Sabin is rocked!
Kim lands a big elbow - Sabin is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Kim!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ham Kim!
Ham Kim is the new heavyweight champion!
A very excited looking Ham Kim made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
