Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mason Walsh! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akihito Yamato! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yamato circles away from the clinch attempt and Yamato counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Walsh clinches up with Yamato and pushes him back against the cage. Walsh looks to throw an elbow but misses. Walsh misses with a knee to the head. Yamato pushes Walsh back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Walsh is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Both fighters working to control the clinch. Yamato throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Walsh has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Yamato manages to break the clinch.
Walsh closes the distance and clinches. Yamato throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Walshs head. Yamato scores with a shoulder strike. Yamato breaks the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Walsh moves in looking to clinch but Yamato pushes him off. Walsh doesn't manage to clinch there - Yamato circles away.
Jab from Yamato. Walsh moves to clinch but Yamato breaks away and Yamato counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Walsh tries to clinch but Yamato moves out of range. Walsh tries to clinch up but Yamato circles away and keeps his distance. Yamato swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Walsh darts in trying to clinch and Yamato counters with a lovely straight right hand! Nice jab there from Yamato. Walsh closes the distance but Yamato moves to the side and Yamato counters with a lovely straight right hand!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Walsh takes one to the side of the head.
Walsh tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Yamato counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Walsh thinking. Walsh looks to clinch enabling Yamato to counter with a crisp jab.
Walsh is rocked! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Walsh gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Yamato breaks from the clinch.
Yamato cracks Walsh with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Walsh looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Yamato finish him?
Oh Walsh is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Yamato drops Walsh with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Walsh! Yamato dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Akihito Yamato! Akihito Yamato was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
