Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jerrold Joyner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andre Fili! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Lou da Vinci and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Joyner walks into a left hand.
It looks like Jerrold Joyner has been cut. Fili tries to clinch up and Joyner counters with a good low kick that Fili was not able to check. Andre Fili seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fili closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Joyner's guard. Fili trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Fili stands up and waves to Joyner to follow him. Fili connects with a single shot there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Joyner gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Joyner is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Fili pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fili turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fili in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Joyner can't do much from the bottom here. Fili is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Joyner is working to avoid the ground and pound but Fili connects with a decent elbow. Joyner tries to buck Fili off but Fili is having none of it. Fili is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Fili scores with punches from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fili working away. Joyner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Joyner trying to control but Fili flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back! Can Joyner hold on?! Fili is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Fili lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK. Joyner looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joyner is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Fili.
Fili has managed to slip his arm under Joyner's chin. This could be all over... yep, Joyner is tapping out! Submission win for Fili.
